^^^ Do you have an average for kW per day for summer and winter?

California has some of the highest costs per kW but we don't use a lot... 12 kW daily summer and winter with almost no variation.

I don't have it in front of me but I seem to recall something like 14kW and 20kW but I could be off. I remember the high summer number being uncomfortably close to the transformer rating of 25kW. I should mention that includes a lot of shop machines and a large compressor. Plus, I air condition a 12x18 storage barn and sometimes a 10x12 shed if I'm plating.

You are really efficient especially with a machine shop...

My monthly usage is 360kW +/- 5%

I've got a little machine shop that seldom gets used... a South Bend Lathe and a Bridgeport Tape Mill.

Those are daily averages. I am (or was) more body shop and metal shaping shop than machine shop. I use the machine shop to make all my forms and dies and the usual family fix-it jobs. Nearly all my hand tools and planishing hammers are air powered so the compressor is going a lot. Not to mention the paint booth. The power hammer is electric but it's a small motor.

My electric bill is broke into two different charges

Generation and transmission
Distribution services

My last bill 7/13-8-13.....31 days
At the house was based on 1443 kwh usage in those 31 days

G & T.................$110.82............$0.077/kwh
Distribution..........$66.42............$0.046/kwh

TOTAL of 12.3 cents per kwh

At my shop for the same 31 day period...
I used 452 kwh

G & T...............$47.33.................$0.104/kwh
Distribution.......$35.71................$0.079/kwh

TOTAL of 18.3 cents per kwh

Around here, the more you use, the cheaper the cost per KWH.

That is what they have been doing around here for a while.

Our poor neighbors,,, the ones that use little more than a small fridge and a TV,,, are getting whacked the worst!!

We quit trying to save electricity after the "Great LED Bulb Upgrade Of 2015",,,,
I run the heat pump to whatever puts a smile on my face,,, :dance1:

Same here.

I am all LED, and put in a geothermal cause all I had prior was baseboard , which I quit using and put a wood burner in, and window AC units. I put in geo.

Now...I am not conscious. Don't always worry bout turning lights off, and let the geo run as much as it wants to keep me comfortable. No real difference in bill from this summer to last year with the window units....but much better comfort level. Winter I expect to pay more over the wood burner, but don't have to worry bout fixing the fire, being too hot or too cold and never "just right" etc.

The shop....it is what it is.

Important enough that I stuck it in its own thread. Provincial Chamber of Commerce report on electricity pricing:

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/canada/369505-considering-move-ontario-read-report.html

"Electricity bills are only expected
to rise in the future, with industrial customers bills
forecast to increase by 13 percent over the next
five years. The rates for households and small
businesses are predicted to climb by 25 percent

over the same period (IESO 2014b)."

Here in Quebec we have lots of cheap hydro electric power as we have good rivers and tons of lakes.
Last year consumption was down but they still raised the rates to match what they could export.
Being gov't owned the rely on hydro to top up the coffers.
In cold weather the ask that we limit consumption since they have committed to export mega watts to Vermont and Maine.
Another factor is that they'd much rather send one big invoice to Vt or Maine rather than mega small bills to individuals hence we pay much more as individual consumers that the exported price.

Then they raised the rate in order to install 'smart meters', yep we paid for them to save labor costs.
Those that object to smart meters were offered to retain the old standard meter however they added a monthly fee to have it read.
I guess the next will be a fee to mail the invoices unless we pay on line.

The telephone company has already added a fee for paper invoices!
