If someone really did that, it could hurt an innocent person. I wonder if there is something very stinky when burned that could be put into a hole, plugged, and inconspicuously marked. Bruce
that is why I didn't actually do it but every time they put a stick of wood in they think about it. Also they say a 22 bullet with make a loud bank but not go through the stove. Just my luck the stove will be opened when some innocent kid would be walking but.

Primers would be better. They are pretty much harmless and still accomplish the loud bang. The biggest danger would be throwing coals out of the stove.

I've thrown 22 shells in fires many times...

The bullet doesn't come back out, only the lighter case comes out, with very little force. At least that's what has happened any time I've ever done it....

what the firing pin strikes to start the powder burning. my brother liked to throw them into the fires when people weren't expecting it.

Recently imported some collapsible, palletized wire crates for our firewood:

Each crate holds about 1/4 cord: I might be shy 1/4 cord in that shot- tractor struggles to lift a crate that's filled to the brim with green wood; I'm close to purchasing a larger tractor that'll lift and stack these with ease. I am in the process of building a woodshed to stack these in.

As I need wood at the house I will use the tractor w/pallet forks to grab a crate and drop it off on the deck. Total wood-handling is drastically reduced.

I have a Polaris Brutus that I'll hook up a log splitter to and go out on the property and cut and split wood. The tractor will then come along with a crate and I'll fill and haul. I have a small dual axle trailer that is towable behind the Polaris; I can load it with one or two crate (have only done one so far); the bed of the Polaris is supposed to handle a pallet -it'll carry up to 1k lbs, so maybe another one there. Here's a picture of the Polaris with the trailer hooked up to it (had just picked up the trailer -FREE!- and have since put on new tires):

Hi DB,

Those look great- can I ask what they ran you?

I'd love to have some of those, but I quickly ran out of $ when pricing them locally- I have a perpetual Search-Tempest query for those and a few other items like pallet racks.

For now, we're using firewood bags on conventional pallets, but they don't really stack that well, and we kind of max out our little tractor's capacity by filling them up completely- enough that sometimes, I'll have to provide a [literal] hand on the side away from the tractor when lifting them.

We're also contemplating [finally] building a lean-to woodshed to collect them all in as opposed to the individual tarps we have been using.

We do the very same thing with them otherwise- put one on the front porch [on a wheeled pallet] and take wood from there into the wood stove.

That trailer is a sporty looking thing- great find!

Thanks,
Thomas

If I remember correctly, these came out to be roughly $100 each. Mind you, that doesn't include all the time I spent dealing with the manufacturer and the shipping and importer folks. It was a pretty frustrating ordeal: mostly due to some shipping folks because I'd never been through a process such as this before. I think that U-Line wanted over $200 ea, and that didn't include shipping (or taxes).

My B7800 struggles to manage one of these crates full. Your B2320 wouldn't likely be able to lift one unless you filled it only partially (which kind of defeats the purpose).

I think I noted that I figure this reduces my physical handlings of the wood by two or three (steps).

Or percussion caps (black powder). They'd be a bit more tame, though still make a good pop :D

That's why when it comes down to it, we'll probably stay with the nylon mesh firewood bags, unless I can get a steal on crate pallets somewhere- I have also seen them made of HDPE or some other similar polymer and they might be the real ticket.

Although, I'm still toying with switching to burning coal some day to avoid the whole issue.

I was also going to ask if you were planning on splitting those round logs further, or if you burn them like that?

Just build what ever size you want, in my case, they hold 1/2 cord,

I can get wire baskets for free, but I'd MUCH rather have the bigger, better designed ones that I build.
