The water block filter will clog faster if it has to catch sediment. Having a sediment filter first frees up the aquablock to do just water. Sediment filters are cheap compared to water block filters.

Hope this makes sense ;)

According to this site, they are both 3 microns. Just one costs 2x. I would never run a tank without a water block filter, but pre-filtering for sediment keeps the water blocker from plugging up prematurely.

This is especially important when the fuel is disturbed in the tank, such as refilling.

As I understand it, you will be filling fairly often, right? Double edged sword.

1) Diesel is better when it has time to settle and water separates
2) Fresher diesel should be less contaminated.

...except...

When you get a contaminated delivery! Ugh! Yep, happened to me a few years back. I didn't make it 10 mins in the backhoe before she died and I had to drain the better part of a 5 gal bucket of WATER out of the backhoe tank.

And for our former delivery friend, YES- I did contact the company, they apologized, gave me a partial refund, etc.

There is one hard and fast rule when it comes to fuel. TRUST NO ONE! :p

That's not meant to be hard on anyone, but there are so many things that happen in fuel supplies, every tank, every tanker, every step along the way. Mostly good, but do you really want to risk YOUR equipment? I don't.

For $40 for another filter head with filter, it is a no-brainer, IMHO.

But it's up to you. I'm telling you what my opinion is and what I've done and why. Is it right for you? Maybe, but that's your call :drink:

I appreciate it... And it makes sense.

$40 < even 1hr of wasted time. Much less $ $ $

Do you just put a short nipple, like a close, in between filters? Is there a 'minimum distance' required/optimal between filters?

OK,

I'd decided that I wanted a GPI MANUAL push/pull pump until I saw that my tank is too tall to be able to do it realistically. Then... I decided I wanted a GPI 150 wi automatic nozzle and decided to add a volume counter.

Looked on Tractor Supply after calling GPI, AND FOUND A SETUP, ... but it comes with a $60 Unleaded nozzle for $541 on TSC. Ouch... Seemed high, especially since I'd have to buy a separate $90 diesel nozzle if I wanted to insure this didn't end up in a nice expensive Unleaded car tank. I then thought about purchasing the pump with a diesel nozzle, and posted the question to TSC. THEY didn't like my question, and refused to post it. I then sent another watered down, but accurate question and again, they refused to post it. Apparently they don't like questions about being forced to purchase things that you don't wAnt in order to get what you need.

I decided to buy the same pump with a manual nozzl, but my local store wasn't connected to the system. I went to the store after work, and while looking, realized the basic nozzle setup is different in at least 2 very important ways compared to the overpriced Unleaded Nozzle package. 1st - the spinning lockdown collar which allows you to position the pump appropriately is missing from the manual nozzle system. Also, there is NO WAY to physically lock the manual system from access. These two "UPGRADES" cost more than $130. A collar and a hose mount with a hole costs $130. After I spent an hour trying to find the hole in my findings,... I recognized that GPI packages their pumps in such a way as to essentially REQUIRE you to buy major cost additional equipment just to get basic functionality.

In order to lock your hose/nozzle... You MUST purchase a $399 machine. The $279-299 pump doesn't have the ability to lock the nozzle.
In order to insure that your pump tightens in a useful position in your tank, you must purchase a $130 spinning collar. There is nowhere I can find in which the $10 collar and $5 locking hose holder is available separately. Not to mention you have to purchase an Unleaded Nozzle, then an ADDITIONAL $90 diesel nozzle. I would be willing to bet that 90% of these pumps are used with diesel, but they (GPI) package them with the expensive but less frequently used Unleaded Nozzle, thereby requiring you to also purchase the separate $90 diesel nozzle or take your chances down the road.

GPI COULD have made an option for a diesel nozzle, but chose not to. IMO, because most purchasers are then forced to also a buy the diesel nozzle any way.

But... After all this work, recognition, and understanding. I finally decided that I'd rather pay twice as much for a Fill Rite with honest sales and packaging, rather than this BS packaging of GPI. I'm all about buying Made in America. I almost always do so. But when the American company pulls this crap, I'd rather buy honesty for double the price.

Full-Rite might be the big dog. And I'm an underdog kind of guy, but when that underdog screws me over with BS, I'm gone. They could have packaged options... Honesty... And I would have stuck with them for life. But there is no intelligent and honest way this packaging isn't pure financial manipulation.

I used what I had around and wanted plenty of room between for servicing the filters. Think I have about a 5" or 6" steel pipe between them.

I'm just using a $25 nozzle. It's my diesel tank. If someone STEALS my fuel for their car... well, that just ensures they remain in "range" LOL.

Locking the pump? I unplug mine when not using it. High security, I know ;) You could always wrap a cable and padlock, like a bike cable.

THEY didn't like my question, and refused to post it.

Their site isn't very user friendly in most cases. Search engine is terrible. I wouldn't take it personally.

It's possible there are a number of folks like me who don't really care about the color of a nozzle and size to prevent dumb people from trying it in their cars. Nobody else uses my tank.

I also understand how much it STINKS to get a bunch of crap and runaround when you have money in hand and just want to get it done. If it isn't worth the aggravation, try something else, vote with your dollar ;)

Good luck in whatever you decide to do ;)

Is there something wrong with the 8 GPM Roughneck 12V pump I posted a while ago? I have not read any bad reviews. I've been using mine for over a year now and it cost less than $160 at NorthernTool. I don't lock mine but could easily lock the nozzle to the hanger bracket with the right size padlock to prevent unauthorized use. Even if someone went to use it they would have to have the matching 12V plug or hot wire the plug to pump it.

I don't need an automatic nozzle as it only takes a minute or so to fill my 12 gallon tractor tank.

You guys do have me thinking of adding a water block filter after my 10 micron NAPA Gold even though I haven't had a water in fuel problem. I also stick my tank once a month for water and haven't had any yet.

I have need for a farm diesel tank. ? Obround tank for outside farm fuel stor...

I have an elevated 300 gallon diesel tank with bottom of tank 7' above ground. I can gravity fill 12.4 gallon tank on my LS in about 75 seconds and 33.5 gallon tank on New Holland in 3.5 minutes.

I've had the 300 gallon tank since 1990 and used a Golden Rod water block only. I replace filter cartridge once a year.

I use Power Services gray bottle with every tank refill. Really doesn't get cold enough for the PS White bottle here.

I try to almost completely empty tank between refills and drain last 2-3 gallons into a 5 gallon can for starting burn piles. My bulk supplier usually comes within 1-2 days of calling them. I typically refill 3-4 times per year.
