Bought a MF 1529 last Sat, to supplement my Ford NAA. While, I can get the hood open from underneath, I notice a cable attached to the release latch, but, for the life of me (without tracing it back), can't find a hood release knob among the many others. Where is it?!!

It is located by the front right wheel. The cable is the hood release, there is no knob on anything else near the operator station if that's what you are thinking. Just pull the cable and raise the hood. Let me know if this doesn't help and I'll take pictures.

@DuckSlayer1017 Thanks! That's what i had been doing, but upon seeing the cable, suspected it headed toward the operator's station. I guess, a cable/knob could be added, if so desired.

Well, there is a "pull knob" for opening the hood .... It's just a small black plastic thing, sticking out of the frame on the right side, directly outboard of the latch. It wouldn't do much good, if the latch was bit rusty.

Another 1529 owner....welcome to the forum. I picked mine up this year, late spring, and have enjoyed the heck out of it. Looking forward to seeing how it starts/runs this coming winter here in northern Minnesota. This is the first diesel I've owned.

The MF 1529, which I bought, is a pretty clean tractor, 530 hours. However, I believe it spent most of it's life out in the weather. Many of the parts were seized, due to rust/oxidation, ... i.e. the draft bar stabilizers wouldn't turn, seat arm rests wouldn't move at all, wheel lugs required an impact tool to break them loose, etc.. The hazard/turn signal lights were wiped out ... one was totally missing.

I found, that buying parts for the MF is quite cumbersome, compared to the Ford NAA, which has a multitude of sources.

So, my efforts so far, have been getting things loosened up, changing fluids and filters and paint touch-up. Otherwise, it seems to be a solid tractor.

Additionally, I shortened the top section of the ROPS by 16", as it stuck up so high, I couldn't get it into any of my buildings, without folding it down. It's still over a foot higher than my head.

Arizona, I'd get a oil pan heater or block heater before winter. I am getting one this year to help with the cold starts. Mine always fires right up but she does huff and puff for a little while. Other than that mine runs great in the winter.

I have a 1,000 watt block heater, factory (or dealer) installed. Good to hear your 1529 starts OK in the winter....hopefully mine will be just as cooperative.

Block heater update: We had 21F degrees earlier this week. I went out and plugged in the 1529 for an hour, then used the glow plugs for 5 to 6 seconds, then cranked it over. It started great. No sputtering, no white smoke....it was just like a hot start in mid-summer. I realize 21F isn't close to cold, but I'm fairly confident that 1KW heater will do what is needed once the snow is on the ground and temps are sub-zero.

How do you expect it would have done without the heater?

Having previously started it this fall when the thermometer was in the low 30s or high 20s, it then did as I mentioned...it spit and sputtered and puffed out some white smoke....and took at least 5 seconds for the idle to smooth out. And that was with the glow plugs on for 10 seconds. So it was much better after the block heater warmed things up.

By the way, tmajor, did you see my skid plate write-up for the 1529? http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/build-yourself/362103-diy-massey-ferguson-1529-skid.html

Yes, I had looked at that. When I got my tractor, it had a 4" pine log jammed up on the left side. .... didn't seem to affect anything.

Now my concern is the R4 tires. 1st, i had a sheet rock screw in the right rear, which I plugged. That was my fault, as I leveled off my burned "burn pile". Today, I noted a shattered piece of wood sticking out of one of the tire ribs on the left side. At first, I thought it was the end of another plug.

I've never had that happen to an ag tire. I'm wondering, if the R4's are a softer rubber?

I believe, that's the stick, in a previous picture.
