I had a similar unit in my previous shop. I thought it was efficient until I installed a Goodman house heating type in my current shop. The efficiency ratings for furnaces are deceiving to a non expert person like me. Hey, 80% that sounds good right????? There's a huge difference in operating cost of furnaces depending on their efficiency ratings.

And repairs. Good thing about Goodman is bout everyone sells parts for them and cheap and easy to repair.

I have found the same to be true even of pine. I don't get much pine, and I keep it for shoulder season, but still, I have now burned enough to know that 6 months is not enough. Pine needs at least a year in my climate (Virginia) and it's noticeably better at two years.

I would never burn it in the house except as kindling, but I'll use pine in my garage/shop. It burns hot and quick, which is exactly what you want in a building that's only used occasionally in cold weather. We have so much pine & spruce on the property, might as well put it to use. I'll let it dry for a year, haven't had any problems with creosote.

Thanks Richard, Murph, for the good lead... but I was wanting to mount up off the floor and without ducting. Do I have those options?

You can hang one up off the rafters sideways.

No.

Your reasons are why I used that type in my previous shop. That's the greatest selling point for those. Doesn't take up any space that's currently being used. It'll serve you well.

I burn every tree I cut, regardless of type. Some are better, some are worse. Waste not, want not. :)

I bucked some Bay Laurel that was good size and toppled near the creek... had to move it so I cut and split it.

Very disappointed... really not worth the effort to burn but I had to give it a try...

Lots of Coast Oak and with some pine on the land so no more Laurel for me!
