Thanks for the replies!!
The tractor I looked at is a JD 4105,,
it is like the entry level CUT,, bare bones tractor.
No cruise control, no steering brakes,,
two speed hydro, rather than three,,, etc,,,
I don't think anyone has steering brakes with a hydrostatic trans. I may be wrong, never had a hydro tractor (yet) Thought I remember reading something about needing 2 right feet:confused3:

My late 70's IH 2500b was a 50PTO HP 8000# cabbed 2wd HST tractor loader and it had split brakes. Both brake pedals were on the right foot as was a foot throttle and a differential lock behind you're right heel. The two directional pedals were under your left foot.
I have never used my breaks to steer, I have them locked to be one. Breaks are on the left foot, deff lock is on left heel and two directional petals on the right foot.

But they are there if you need them and they would be convenient to use too. Pushing snow/ice on a parking lot that slopes is one good use for a steering brake. Give it a little right or left "rudder" and "tack into the wind". Working dirt up against a building is another good use for them. You can also use on to slow down a spinning wheel so the other wheel will take off and pull you out of a mud hole is a good application also. It can be used to "twist" you out of a stuck situation also and get your nose pointed downhill. It works as good or better than the differential lock, and you can use it while spinning a tire, you can also switch back and forth to "wiggle" out of a stuck situation, As well as just use one to make a sharper turn to miss and obstruction. Lots and lots of reason to use split brakes. Another arrow in your quiver. Try them some time and get good at using them, and you will like 'em too.![]()
You my friend have the ideal setup and don't even know it.....
