You should use the right tool for the job. Every tool can become a hammer, and every screw driver a pry bar, but you would be better suited choosing the right tool for the job.
A gun is a tool designed to kill. In close proximity, a .22LR in a compact handgun is the perfect tool.
Do I carry a 22LR for defensive purposes? No. However, I'm not going to go around quoting Chris Kyle on a rifle caliber when the topic is handguns, nor am I going to criticize someone's caliber choice for a defensive round
Per the Miami shootout, it was a total cluster storm where the Feds felt they needed a scapegoat. Caliber choice became that scapegoat. They felt they couldn't handle the 10MM, so they cut it down to a .40 and then everyone marketed it to the civilian scene.
