Power Rake build

I love this build.

I do think at some point you should try having side plates though, I spend most of my raking time with them in front (collecting) and they're very important IMO.

The Harley has REALLY heavy adjustable wheels in back but I've never had to move them from their position.

Very nice build. I've considered building one for my skid steer.
What are the dimensions of the teeth? Are they just hot rolled steel?

Thanks
They are just 2"x2"x3/8" hot rolled.

Yeah, the more I've been using the more I think side plates would help. I keep leaving piles off to the sides that I have to go back and either run over again to spread it out or pick it up.
Maybe this winters project.
Thanks :drink:

Nice looking rake!

In addition to side plates, you also need a rubber flap at the top of the roller. This keeps clumps of grass, clay and rocks from just getting thrown over the top. Keeping the clumps in front of the rake helps break them up and the rocks get collected. I swiped a picture from the front of the manual so I did not have to crawl around the barn to take pictures. The height of the flap is quick-adjustable using lever on the back of the rake but I mostly keep mine all the way down (just clearing the teeth). I raise it all the way for spreading and leveling wood chips.

For finish leveling, float in the top link helps immensely. Note the slotted hole for the top link. There is a fixed hole as well. Use the fixed hole for initial grading and pulverizing. For finishing grading, if you adjust your top link so that it is centered in the slot when the rake is at the grading height you want (typically with the teeth just engaging the soil), the gauge wheels follow the finish grade and adjust the rake independent of the tractor.

Thanks Stone,

The flap was part of the original design but never got around to it.

Thanks for the info on the top link slot. I wasn't really sure if I needed it but left a spot to add it later.

More things to do I guess.

In the process of building one now for my TL130. I dont know OP's dimensions but mine is 66" on the drum and I used 3/4" round bar 2" tall. 126 of them.

I didn't even notice the missing flap on top. That and the sides are necessary for processing material... I run my flap almost all the way down all the time, never have had to move it. That way only the smallest stuff gets through. :)

Both are easy mods but worth it!

Have you attempted raking gravel? I'm in the planning stages of building my own, but one of the uses is to level out pot holes on our private drive which is probably going to be hard on whatever I use for teeth.

I need one... I mow 7 acres of old pasture and would sure be nice if I could get the ruts out of it. I can lay my hands on an old 7 foot Mott flail mower that might make for a good start. It has a bad gear box but just so happens I have one that will bolt up. Wondering if the existing belt drive would be heavy duty enough to handle turning the drum into a rake.

I have not used it on a gravel drive yet. I have been using to go over a couple acres of yard to level it out. I've found some rocky areas and also hit some buried concrete chunks and the teeth look like new still.

Good to know. I started another thread here about what to use for teeth. Leaning toward grade 8 nuts and bolts as teeth.
