*FINALLY* Going to Tazewell

Just fair warning. While all of us are frugal and adverse to overspending we are very very good at spending your money.

Well, I'm exceeding the tractor budget set forth by the warden as it is, but what should I expect to pay for the welding of said chain hooks?

I am definitely getting the spinner knob. I used to have one on my '72 VW Bus... probaby still in a box somewhere.

I bought the weldable hooks and shipped them to Tazwell. The hooks were $5 each from TruckNTow. I am not sure how much PT charged to weld them on - I spent so much repairing the 2 tractors after they were abused by the previous users that it would have been in the noise.

Pretty much.... nice small portable welder about $500. All Power Trac owners eventually end up with welders. PT ought to put them on their price list.

Hooks are cheap (<$10). So is beer. Do you have a friend with a welder that likes beer?

They weld so much there that i think they hardly charged anything. The biggest factor is whether you have time to get them shipped to Tazwell. But as you say, beer is cheap.

I do have beer and a friend. Going to take that route.

They suggested I load up Friday, take with me on trailer to hotel. I have to say... that terrifies me. I don't want to wake up in the AM to an empty or missing trailer. Going to see what I can do for a Saturday pickup.

Yeah, that terrifies me as well. We were moving a kid in Pittsburgh and had to leave the u-haul on a side street overnight. It was empty, but you still get to thinking.... what if.

I don't like leaving my old tennis shoes in the car, let alone umpteen thousand dollars of tractor on an open trailer.

While inconvenient, the tractor should be insured when hitched to your car through your auto / homeowners policy. As the PT is nearly impossible to tow without some serious mechanical fun (you have to undo the tram pump or run the engine) I would be less concerned about it walking away. Also, it is Tazewell, all 12 people know each other...
