.22 LR Ammunition - any updates on availability?

I'm optimistic and am about to drop below 15,000 rounds of standard velocity ammo.

There hasn't been a box of any .22 rimfire in our Branson supercenter since Jan, 2013. I suspect there never will be. They don't even have shelf space for it any more. Any other caliber you want is available, but for some reason they are just not going to stock it here anymore. Most gun shops locally have it. Plenty available at mail order.

Same here - none at local WallyWorlds since 2013, but piles of it at the LGSs. The new Cabelas about two hours from me has it out the wazoo.

From what I have seen lately, .22 rimfire ammunition is pretty much available everywhere today accept for some major retailers. And I believe those retailers choose not to carry it like they did before, caving into the anti-gun radicals.

I have wondered why some of the Wal Marts seem to have stock for sale, and others not only don't have any stock, they have no shelf space for any. They used to carry them, and for a long time after Jan 2013 still had empty shelf space with price tags for them, but as of now, they have no shelf space for them and no price tags. They have just "given up" stocking .22 rimfire as if they don't exist any more. If it was corporate policy, it would seem to affect all Wal Marts, but your guess is as good as mine.

I even found some .22 mag recently; only had three boxes, but it's the first I've seen in about 3 or 4 years. Amazingly, I have seen .17 available most everywhere.

Yeah, that's been my experience at our Highland IL store, too. They removed the label from the shelf and have centerfire stuff there now.

Yes, and somewhere along the line they decided not to stock "black rifles" any longer either. I think that may be a corporate wide decision. Although they still stock ammo for "black rifles". :confused3:

Yeah, their corporate firearms "policy" seems to be all over the map. I bought a 20g 870 there a few years ago for my Wife. They made the process so painful and cumbersome that I swore I'd never buy another firearm from them again. Since they don't seem to carry .22LR anymore, there's no reason for me to even look at the gun counter when I'm there. That's a shame, because they usually have really competitive prices. However, it's been good for our LGS, as he gets all of our business now.

I haven't read every post, so forgive me if already mentioned. But I've went to buying almost all my ammo in bulk online, that includes .22 rimfire. There may be shortages of some of it, but I can almost always find some online retailer with it in stock, and free shipping. I bought 8000 rds of American Eagle .22 last fall for less than .05 a round.
Of course there may be shipping restrictions for some states, areas, etc.
