Got the injectors in, the fuel lines to the heads on, the valve covers and gaskets on, the oil cooler on, the water pump on, and was going to get the turbo mounted... but I can't find the d@mn bolts that hold the turbo pedestal to the block ANYWHERE. And the bolts from the motor I took out are too short, already checked that, stole a few others I couldn't find. There's bound to be a coffee can in the barn somewhere full of bolts in the place I left them, thinking "I'll leave them here so I can find them easy when I need them..."

Dykem? Elaborate please... a quick Google search didn't readily reveal how I could use it, I'm open to suggestions and ideas!

I think that was what it was called. It is a thin fluid that is colored red or something and you use it to find cracks in castings or metal parts. You spread it on the part where you think there may be a crack, then wipe it off the surface, and some of it will remain in any crack and highlight it. It can show cracks that you cannot see otherwise. I might have the name wrong...

I hate when I do that..... The older I get the more important it becomes to finish projects quickly. Stuff just disappears.... :)

Mystery solved... I never had the bolts! Got to thinking about it earlier today, and remembered that the turbo pedestal was separate from the block, disassembled when I had pulled the motor over 3 years ago. Sent my buddy a text, he looked, and sure enough, right where I left them, in a plastic bag, neatly labeled "turbo pedestal to block bolts, Y2K 7.3 PSD".

So... turbo in place, fuel bowl drain line in place, and exhaust manifold drilled and tapped for EGT probe.

Getting closer...

I was going to suggest looking in cylinder number 3. That's where I usually find stuff!!!! Especially when you hit the starter.

Glad to hear your making progress Greg!

I put a shreider valve in the coolant line that comes off the top of the degas bottle. Pressurized it to 15lbs I think it was. Had 6 cracked cups.

Works... if installed, cooling system intact. My motor is out, on a stand... for now. I'm gonna take my chances, injectors in now, buttoning things up to get it back in the truck asap.
