Not sure what to tell you, Richard. I've only worked 2 shifts so far. My schedule is a 14 day rotation of 2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off, repete. I go in tonight at 7, and work the next 3 nights... gives me a 3 day weekend off every other weekend. I think I will get used to it... if I wasn't still fighting this fever on and off, it would be easier.

I'm a wuss in my old age, I'd struggle with that schedule.

Sorry the "bug" is still crawling around in you....

Off work for 4 days... Finally feeling a little better... mostly fever free last night and today... got our pool set up yesterday. I finally spent some time on the motor again today. Couple little things, like putting the idler pulleys on, and the water pump pully. Spent about 3 or 4 hours to save $15 on a thermostat housing. Stock one was quite rusty, wasn't leaking when removed, but I didn't want to chance it. Aftermarket billit aluminum ones can be had for about $65. I made one on that style, 1/4" steel plate, scd 40 galvanized pipe, gotta be better than $15 stamped steel repop part.

Did I save money? No way. Did I make a part out of junk I had and have nothing more than my time on a lazy Holiday weekend and hone my skills a shade more? Likely. Fun shop tinker time... interrupted by the wife's ex, and his vehicle troubles, but I help him when I can...

The real reason? I want a $35 thermostat instead of a stock $12 one... "look honey, I made this and saved $15, put that toward the $35, with the $12, about even, right?"

What makes a $35 t-stat better? And what's the oil capacity of that whoopin big pan? Nice work.

Typically takes 14 quarts of Rotella 15w40 for an oil change...

The plan was to put a 203° (vs 195° stock) thermostat in, based on some things I'd read. But I'm getting conflicting opinions from others, saying it's a waste of money. Regardless, it's gonna be covered by a nice housing neck!

I went ahead and ordered the 203° thermostat, and some oil additive (Archoil 9100, helps with high mile injector operation in the 7.3's) but haven't been able to get anything done... I had to work over the weekend, and covering 2 more nights, then my 2 scheduled nights... 7 nights, 12 hours each... uggghhhh. But I'm off this weekend coming... when I need to fix my air compressor, and hope to get closer to the motor going in the truck!

Take care of youself, I'm closely following this thread because I've 2 7.3's.

Lol Richard... with a baby due this August, I've got 18+ years before the youngest is out of the house, and by then, I expect we will be over run by grand-youngins! I'm doomed! <snip>
Is there some law about moving out at age 18?
I've still got one in-house at 29.

A year ago I saw a government paper on this subject. Listed the average age for independence at 24. My three boys were all on their own at 18. Danny (youngest) rented a house at 17 couple months before he graduated high school. He's a rock (now 38).
