I have angle iron ramps that set on open trays in the back of the trailer in the middle. Ideal setup vs the side/slide in style BUT any bump and the bang and rattle even when bungied down. Anybody solve this with an over-center clamp or toggle clamp type setup? Thanks.

Scraps of carpet or similar to dampen the rattle/roll?

Perhaps cut a wedge shape of wood to attach to back of the ramp pocket. When you slide in the ramp it works in to the wedge to stop the rattle on that end. If you have doors over your ramps then stick a wedge on that end and close the doors. If yours uses pins in the end of the pocket then arrange your pins with a spacer or washer or such to reduce the rattle / bounce. It might take a try or two to get the wedges the right shape and length but once your done glue em in and put in a screw or bolt to hold em till the glue drys. Use a polyurethane type glue or some such that will flex some and have lots of adhesive strength.

I would be careful with carpet, as it will tend to hold moisture every time you drive thru a puddle, rain or just wet roads. Bound to promote rust!

Cut a piece of inner-tube or thin rubber and try that for padding.

out door carpet perhaps, example what is placed on trailers for boats.

not sure if you could get any sort of paint on or spray on rubber up into the rail areas. to help create a cushion. the rubber may end up not allowing things to slide easily. though they do have different pond liner rubber materials abs / pvc that might be a bit more slicker vs going with a EPDM thicker rubber.

grease the snot out of the rails. so entire ramps moves vs catching up rust and like and then suddenly forcefully coming flying and hitting something causing extra noise.

if there is extra space, might say a nylon strips (hard plastic) you still maintain your slickness to make it easy to pull/push ramps in/out. but you loose direct metal to metal rattling. i say nylon due to it is a tad softer and will grove up some from wear and tear (bouncing of the ramps around). but more likely not crack and shatter like a hard plastic.

just a straight C clamps were clamps ends are metal most likely not going to do much. find some "rubber" ends say 1/2" thick, then what ever additional rubber is needed to attach to clamp. the rubber more likely help absorb movement and let things adjust/slide/move just a bit, but not allow full slop of ramps just rattling and rolling.

post some pictures of the rails in trailer, and then ramps pulled out, then ramps pushed in. it might give others including myself better idea of what you are directly dealing with.

That is what my Aluma trailer has. They are pretty thin, not quite as thick as a credit card. It sure does make the 6' long ramps move in and out easily. They have been there since the trailer was new so I don't know how much quieter they make it.

Roll up the windows, turn the AC on and turn the radio up.

My utility trailer came with these plastic wedges that were screwed into the ramp holder tracks, toward the inside of the trailer. I wouldn't have really known about this if not for the fact that one of the screws loosened up and the wedge then obstructed getting the ramp pushed in fully. I ended up curling the leading edge of the wedge, making it no longer usable (had to remove it); need to replace it (this thread reminded me I need to do this:D). For the life of me I now cannot locate a replacement. I'm pretty sure it's an actual trailer solution. The trailer was custom designed and built.

My trailer has open trays in the back of the trailer in the middle as well. I stopped the rattle problem with a good black rubber bungee. I hooked one end of the bungee on a rung of a ramp then wrapped it around the other ramp and center spine (between the stored ramps) spiraling towards the rear a couple of times before hooking the other end of the bungee on another rung. It has worked for 17 years. Of course you need open ladder type ramps for this to work.
