Comparison Husqvarna GT48DXLS Compared to John Deere

S219,

Sounds like you got a killer deal. Under similar circumstances, I'm sure I would have quickly done the same. When I went to purchase the X380 I didn't know a Husqvarna GT48DXLS even existed. I've told the story of how I wound up not purchasing JD too many times already, so I won't repeat it again.

I hope it gives you decades of good service. They are very fine machines.

I agree with everything s219 and plowhog posted. My Deere dealer was even worse - full MSRP and a 20% NON-REFUNDABLE deposit up front to order in a x590 for me to even look at! Had the GT48DXLS not appeared right about then, that's the fate I was facing.

My GT48DXLS came today. I did not get much of a chance to play with it as it came late in the day and it rained on/off.

This is the corrected price -

GT48DXLS - $2699
Bagger - $399

I was able to get an additional $100 off by price matching another dealer a little further away from me. I misquoted the bagger before- I said $349 but was really $399. $3100 rounded before tax with zero percent interest.

The GT48DXLS does not come up on the H website.
I looked at the models, and I am not seeing one that I would prefer....

My wish list:
I want the Kawasaki EPA class A (commercial rated) 26-28 HP V-Twin engine
The heaviest of the hydro garden/ground engaging transaxles, I currently run the Hydro Gear G730 on my 2010 Axcellerator GT with 600 hours on it. No less than that.
Axle like my G730 with spin on filter and easy fluid change access.
Differential lock.
54" Deck, fabricated would be awesome, but a heavy/reinforced stamped deck would work.
Cut speeds of 7-8 MPH.

Where did you find info on this elusive GT48DXLS being that it is not advertised on the H site, and why-oh-why is is there no maxed out configuration with a 54" or even larger deck for us who spend 4-5 hours cutting! I do like my disguised Husqvarna (Craftsman) but wish it was tweaked up a bit towards higher end with better engine, deck and diff lock. Orange paint would be kind of sexy....

Maybe Team Husqvarna could build me a beast like this!?

I am going to venture a guess on this elusive rig:

The Husqvarna GT48DXLS is a dealer only model done on a limited run, the 'D' stands for Dealer and what makes it is that it has a 24 hp Kawasaki V-Twin Engine which is a one shot deal.

However on the Husq website we find this: "The future of mowing has arrived with the new GT48XLSi lawn tractor". This has the SAME specs as the 'D' except it has a Briggs & Stratton 24 HP engine. Husqvarna Riding Lawn Mowers GT48XLSi

They are one in the same based upon my research. Willing to stand corrected if others have better data.

Is that with a 48" deck, or can you get a "D" with the Kawasaki as a 54" variant?

My old Craftsman in the picture is a EPA class C 26HP Courage engine, and at just under 600 hours the hydro is getting slower and making more whine sound than ever. I know it's days are numbered :-( I would like a heavier hydro unit than the G730 that can survive my not so level property, and then a class A engine that will live a couple thousand hours as well. One and done kind of thing. People that live near flat earth surfaces don't know that pain that folks like me have where the hydro units die untimely deaths from pushing hills (17 to 35 degrees here) that we do in the mountain areas. I want a garden tractor that is built like a tank... but for under $3,500.... Hey, I am not asking for much am I? Haha.

Did you notice the red banner at the top of the page? "Discontinued Model". That's an old one. It also has stuff that nobody but the Marketing Dept likes. Lots of electronic junk to fail - it's a lawn mower! Last thing I need is keyless ignition....

I believe we'll see it in the lineup this year. They sold like gangbusters, and that matters to the decision makers at corporate.

Wow you are asking for a lot- you can buy the husky— every 5 or 6 years. Or go with JD say X590 with 54 inch deck , Kawi Efi engine and K72 tranny ( about twice as strong as your hydro)Weighs about 800 pounds-- will handle your steep hills and last 20 years or so for 7K. Or go up even further to JD X700 series tractor- can go diesel 60 inch deck 4WD ( will laugh at your steep slope) will last rest of your life but you are looking 13 to 15k or go full boat and get a scut, they give you more toys but not as stable on steep slopes as a X5xx or X7xx.. hey its easy to spend others money get the husky and a Kubota scut..LOL

The "D" denotes locking rear differential. Husky has at least half a dozen variants of their garden tractor (GT) that have the same basic frame/chassis/body/seat/controls/etc but differ by engine, transmission, differential, and deck (which are really the modular "components" that you can easily swap around to make different models -- what the auto industry used to call "parts bin" engineering). The core tractor is identical.

Distribution of the various models is complicated. Some only available through a dealer, some available at big box stores, some available at both. From what I heard, the GT48DXLS was made in limited numbers as a trial model for dealers. It certainly has the exact combination of features I would have wanted, and at a lower price, than the more expensive GT52XLS I was looking at in 2015-2016. I haven't heard anything about it for the next model year, whether it will be carried over, or otherwise.

In this other thread, member "tk tom" made some posts (about page 5/6/7 onward) that might have more information.

He's a Husqvarna dealer and would probably know more about the status of the GT48DXLS, so somebody might want to PM him to see if he knows anything.

Well, its Dec, 2017, lets review the bidding:

the GT48DXLS is STILL on the Husk website: Yes it sez "discountined model! Really, then why is it on the website? Or is Husk a $Billion buck global enterprise so mucked up their website is not kept up to date? I own a company and while I cannot say its a $Billion buck global enterprise, I can tell you I update it EVERY WEEK, my customers depend on it! Hard to believe Husk cannot keep a website updated, on the other hand I am not shocked.

What does the "D" stand for in GT48DXLS?

I beleive it stands for "Dealer". Based upon that it appears the GT48DXLS was only shipped to Husk dealers, and not big box stores (that I can ascertain). On the other hand s219 sez it denotes locking rear differential.

I am not willing to say he is wrong and I am right or that I am right and he is wrong. I don't we know for sure and maybe Husk does not either????

I do know tha tother Husk come with a locking diff and they do not have "D" in the advertised name...that may or may NOT mean anything?

Anyhow, bought a another trailer, bringing my trailer up to 4 again, and this one I bought to pick up rocks/ My land clearing days at least where I wanted to clear are all but over, now to clear the rocks from the ground in order to buy a riding mower to mange it.

Stay tuned, mostly to Husk as who knows WHAT they will offer up this spring...
