Unless I am missing something... doesn't appear to be tied down either.

Two 1" ratchet straps, pulling down on the two short chunks of 2x that are crosswise at either end (you can see them if you right click the picture to open in a new window).

Pretty sure those are the 2 metal bands around the bundle.

I had not considered it being a whole bundle...I believe you are correct.

Looks that way to me, but it's not going anywhere.

Unless that poor trailer collapses under the load, of course, which is a very real possibility.

I came up behind this guy the other day. Notice the back piece of angle iron is bending in the middle.

This does not shock me. I work in a lumber yard and this is a common sight there. I've seen 3500lb pallets of block in trailers that can't be rated for more than 2000lbs. One guy had me put a full bunk of 4x4x8 treated on his snowmobile trailer. This was a fresh unit, treated like a week prior. I didn't even get all the weight on there and the rim was on the ground. So he decided 1/2 was better... Still looked terrible. #1 problem people come without checking their trailer, I mean seriously at least check the tire pressure before you try to overload it. I wish I would take pictures, you'd get a kick out of it. F150/Ram1500/Chevy1500 guy's are the worst. "its got the heavy duty springs"... Yeah okay man, but no short bed 1500 is going to carry 3000lb in the bed.

Few pages back there's a picture of a small trailer with those mesh gates and a pallet loaded in the very rear. I cannot tell you how many people expect us to drive up those ramps on the forklifts. 1. there's no ground clearance. 2. these forklifts weight 9000-12000lbs, i will crush your gate. 3. even if i could drive up it, i won't, company policy says no.

Local Home Depots will not load with Forks anymore.

I bought a pallet of Concrete Sacks and in the past the operator would nicely set the pallet in the bed of the truck... Driver said he can't do it so all the sacks were hand transferred over the side of the pickup box which scratched the heck out of the stepside bed...

Generally, I will have up to 7 pallets delivered but just needed one that day.

One of the local lumber yards has a big sign in the yard that says "We reserve the right to refuse to load your vehicle in an unsafe manner". I saw them do it once, the buyer was trying to get the yard guys to load about 20 16 ft 2x8s against the top of his pickup cab.

I saw something like that in Florida, only it was a foam surfboard at about a 45 degree angle when they went flying by me. A few miles down the road they were pulled over to the side and the surfboard was now in 2 pieces.

Had that happen to me, a chance encounter left me with several sheets of free peg board. I was driving a jeep. I strapped it down on the roof, and then ran a strap front to back to stop it from lifting. somehow the strap released at 40 mph, and I instantly had twice the amount of sheets, half the size. I was younger then.......:duh:

Saw this one this week on a job site. These guys were pulling out to leave like this. Skidder not tied down in any way, job box was ratchet strapped to front forks on skidder, and wooden box in front was not secured in any way.

Not to mention that the center of weight for the skidsteer looks to be right on, or just slightly behind the back axle. Probably the only reason the job box was strapped is they loaded it that way and just shut it off there rather than dropping it and loading the skid backwards for proper weight distribution.

That appears to be a tilt bed trailer which would make it difficult to unload the skid steer and back it back on without tipping over the top heavy job box. We also don't know what the weight of the job box was or the weight of the items in the bin on front.

If you haul a concrete block weighing tons, do you need to tie it down?

You say that like; just because it is difficult to load properly, loading it poorly was okay... Considering our witness said they drove off strapless and such, I consider hunting excuses for their stupidity to be a more futile effort than turd-polishing.

They probably had enough truck to over come the loading issue. There's still no excuse for the lousy tie down job. Another excuse we could make for these guys is that the trailer design is poor. The axels appear to be pretty close to centered.

Regarding that Bobcat, if you look at the tires on that trailer it looks like the rears have a lot more weight; that or they're more under-inflated. In either case that trailer is going to act tail-heavy.

ploqhog, that's some scary stuff! Clearly not enough friction to hold that piece on that trailer. That driver is soon going to have to change occupations.
