How many miles on your vehicle before sell or trade?

I typically keep vehicles 7 to 10 years depending on condition and mileage...

I just sold my old Buick Lesabre...
Had 225K miles on it and still running fine...
I bought it with 105K miles and drove it 8 years...
Nothing major in repairs...
That 3.8 is a great engine...
The darn drivers seat was worn slap out...

My current Buick Century I purchased 3 years ago with 80K one owner miles...
Had to put in a water pump and a window regulator...
Nothing major thus far and with 105K miles I expect to run it until we retire in 5 years...

My last two Cadillac's were traded with 225K and 215K miles...
88 Deville and 96 Seville...
Again nothing major other than water pumps, etc...

I sold my F350 4x4 dually crew cab with only 105K miles...
It was an 03 with the 7.3...
I just didn't need that much truck anymore and purchased an 07 HD 2500 Silverado with a 6.0...

I did break down last February and bought my first Chrysler...
A 2015 Chrysler 300...
Hopefully by the time we retire it will be broken in at 50K miles or so...
Broken in and not broken...
At least that is the plan...

I'm partial to a '68 or '69 myself, but in any case be prepared to dig deep into the wallet, of any vehicles mentioned in this thread it's the only one that continues to appreciate in value. They get the bucks for those muscle-car era Chevys...even something in need of a total restoration can go for 8k or more.

2001 dodge was famous for cracked dashes, apparently no uv inhibitor in the plastic. Nearly every 2001 dash cracked. They made overlays to cover it.
The ac leaked under the dash, quoted over $1000 to fix, so i didnt.

Was this something unique to '01 Rams? I have an '02 Dakota, and the dash looks like new.
No problems with AC leaking, but then again I don't think I've ever used it.

There is nothing out there that I would want to own. Just garbage, glitz and bling. Don't forget the mostly vinyl leather!

It seems the auto makers have no shame. But the buying public share a huge part of the blame. Buying this garbage.

The automakers are only responding to customer demand (as well as government mandates with regard to all the "safety" stuff).
That having been said, there aren't many vehicles out there that do much for me either. Kind of like the new Colorado, but wish you could get one with a decent-sized engine without having to get one of the high trim/options packages. I really don't need or want most of the tech stuff that they come with today, much less the huge consoles that just make the interior cramped without really serving any purpose. I don't think you can even get a bench seat in a truck anymore.

BTW, fake leather has been around a long time.

Yeah, that HUGE console is a major irritation. Loss of room, no place to mount a two way radio, and paperwork falls in behind. I guess marketing says that many of these people that don't know how to drive (Here in Ontario Anyway) like to be in some kind of cockpit, like they are a race car driver or fighter pilot, I guess!

According to the Taxicab Factbook, the average NYC taxi drives 70,000 miles per year. The average age of a NYC taxi is 3.3 years. If we assume that a taxi will likely last about 6 years, then you're looking at a 400-500K miles.

1997 Ford F350 PSD CC 4x4 SRW - bought new, 190k. No plans to replace as I only put ~5k/year on it and couldn't justify a new truck, but I keep it because I do make great use of the truck occasionally.

2009 Mazda 3i hatch, bought new, 130k. No plans to replace as it's trouble-free.
2005 Ford Escape v6 4x4, bought at auction with 50k, has 150k. Daughter's car now; she likes it but may at some point replace with a more off-road capable/camp inside vehicle like a pickup with a light camper/pop tent.

In general, my favored action is to buy a car with 20-30k miles, and keep 100k mi and get rid of it before it starts showing a trend of needing fixes. The aforementioned truck is being kept though some parts are showing wear (had to redo the front tie rods, knuckles and autolock hubs - replaced with manual - but everything else seems fine) because I can't buy a newer-enough truck (like 30k mi) for anything near what I could get for this truck, and I can't justify spending $50k on a newer F350 given how much I use the truck.

Some people really do care about the impression they give to the neighbors and vice versa. The NEWness of a vehicle unfortunately, doesn't last long anyway and they even say the smell is poisonous!. What I do like is driving a new vehicle for four or five years without a single repair, like, not even a bulb! If your lucky enough.

I would consider an Eco Diesel ram, except for the Grenading Motor. That kind of a thing is a deal breaker.

Friend of mine is a rural mail carrier. His current vehicle is a 2005 Jeep Wrangler with 350K miles on it. That's on rural gravel roads using 4wd occasionally to recover himself. Has no intentions of retiring it. I'm thinking his Jeep would easily do 500K under NYC conditions.
