Ruger or Glock

We had a practice session for the church security team last night. Security team means a bunch of guys carrying concealed and just watching everything.

The guy leading the group retired from the military last year. Special Forces and has been training in the ME for a couple years.

Seriously, he had all us middle aged guys pointing fingers and screaming, "BANG, BANG," at the top of our lungs.

We rotated thru seven positions with one guy being the shooter. We stopped the shooter every time only loosing two or three every time. The drill was that the guy would be spotted pulling a pistol as he approached one of the doors.

Then the SF guy pretended to be the shooter. He killed all eight of us EVERY SINGLE TIME. Seriously, he bounced off the walls, was always moving, moved at a diagonal, and never moved straight toward anybody. He would be thru the foyer, up some steps and around a corner before we could get to cover or draw weapons. Then thru the hall and doors into the auditorium.

I think I may need more then six or seven rounds.

Sounds like you are lucky to have that sensei. Did he also talk about situational awareness?

On a different TBN thread ...

“Owning a handgun doesn’t make you armed any more than owning a guitar makes you a musician.”- Jeff Cooper

Glad to see your group is approaching this is a thoughtful manner.

Let me say, I think it is great that you are taking your church families safety to this level. Years ago I was in a church elder meeting where a few of the CC members were requesting permission to carry in church.

I don't think most of the elders thought it was a big deal. One elder however, one of the very tenured and respected ones, went ape $hi+ about it. He pretty much said you allow that I am done here. The paster didn't know what to do and shut that whole request down because of this one guy.

I was probably the newest and youngest elder and I'm sitting there thinking.. if I wanted to carry in here I would just carry.. lol. I am also the most rebelious one; and frankly haven't gone to church in years after seeing the compromises that go on in elders meetings.

Anyway, kudos to you all for not letting a few anti gun folks stop you from keeping your place of worship from being a soft target.

If you didn't check the chamber of the firearm the instant you picked it up then you should not be handling firearms at all.

I don't disagree with you, but how many TRAINED police officers do you think have accidently shot themselves while cleaning their Glock? Think they're still on the force without their Glock?:D

Just doing a quick web search, I came across this one

It has aboslutely NOTHING to do with Glocks, but just people in general and firearms safety.

All I can say to that video is WOW! No one on that video believed he did that on purpose; if he did he is even dumber than I am thinking he is!

Well, if you shoot yourself you have violated the rule of gun safety that states "always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction" Or some say never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy. So if you are willing to destroy your own body, have at it. In USPSA competition, you let the muzzle sweep any part of your body, you are DONE. Your are disqualified, Your match fees are forfeited, and you can stay and watch if you like or you can take your toys and go home.

The number one time people got DQ'd for "sweeping" was on stages that had doors or windows to open to shoot thru. People would sweep their wrists as they opened the door with their weak hand. I never did it, I would always slow down. Better lose a second on the clock than be DQ'd.

I have never had a negligent discharge (yet), but If I do, I sure hope I have the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. It is one thing to violate at least one rule of gun safety (keep your finger off of the trigger until you are on target), but to violate a couple of them at the same time, well that is just stupid.

To me the fact that you must pull a Glock's trigger before field stripping is a TOTAL non issue. If you didn't check the chamber of the firearm the instant you picked it up then you should not be handling firearms at all. Anyone that has a negligent discharge from pulling a Glocks trigger with the intent of field stripping it, is an idiot. And I would be happy to tell them that to their face. ALL firearms are loaded 100% of the time unless you have personally checked it right there and then. Anyone that would knowingly pull the trigger of a loaded firearm and not expect it to fire is an idiot.

Almost seems to be a spoof of an instructor. His closest audience didn't trust him from the beginning and was laughing when he misfired.

I rest my case the "instructor" with the .44 magnum revolver was and is an idiot. And on top of that he is a cocky idiot. He wasn't even man enough to admit his near tragic mistake. Did not check the revolver when he picked it up and did not exhibit any muzzle discipline, and put his finger in the trigger guard and pulled the trigger when he was not pointing downrange and on target. It is a wonder he didn't put the muzzle under his chin.

I just watched it, that made me cringe. Did it actually whack him in the face?

Do you believe you will ever have someone trained & motivated to KILL attack your church?
Is it more likely you will be attacked by someone more like you & the others in your group that don't have that training?

When you get as good as your instructor, I'll just throw a bomb into the building... then what?

One reasons I do not like Glocks is because of the need to pull the trigger to field strip.

While people correctly state that the weapons should be unloaded before field stripping, scat happens. With my old S&W pistols, even if I messed up, left a round in the chamber and pointed the weapon at myself or another, I would not fire the weapon when field stripping because I never had to touch the trigger. The Glock design just makes it more possible to fire by accident. The other thing I do not like about the Glock is that it does not have a loaded chamber indicator. Now, not every pistol has an indicator, but it sure is a nice feature. Just makes it easy to quickly glance to make sure the weapon is really unloaded or loaded. Tis a feature that helps minimize an accidental discharge. The Glock design simply increases the odds of someone making a mistake.

I have a rifle that requires a trigger pull to release the bolt. I don't like it either.:laughing::laughing:

Once upon a time, I was about to clean that rifle, so I pulled the trigger to release the bolt and said oh scat. Except I did not say scat. :D What scared me was the question that had popped into my head as I pulled the trigger, did I check the chamber? Now, a round did not fire, and I HAD checked the chamber, but it still scared the who who out of me.

Later,
Dan
