Flat face hydraulic connectors are better?

Well your hand isn’t going to get all the dirt and grit off. Pretty simple to keep a can on the tractor.

Because everyone always has a can of that handy. I can clean the skid steer couplers with my hand although a rag is ideal.

Starting fluid works good too, and most of the time there is a can of that around. ;)

If I had a million bucks, I'd bet that, nest of connectors that is supposed to connect and disconnect in one go, without issue, will be a major problem. Anything that doesn't work individually well could not possibly work as a bunch at the same time. I could be wrong.

You could be wrong, but probably not.

I treat brake cleaner, starting fluid, and carb cleaner as pretty much universal. If I only used the tractor in the same place it might not be a problem but that's not the case.

FF couplers might flow a little more, so I've read. They definitely are easier to clean/wipe off. I switched over to them on my M7060. I use them for my hydraulic post hole digger, and my EA Grapple. ...I have found that the highest quality couplers are made by Holmbury, a bit more expensive, but the finish on their parts is exceptional....Regarding any FF coupler, I do have a hard time connecting them together most of the time...So Holmbury makes this special male coupler that is larger/longer than a standard male coupler, with a built in chamber for the hydraulic fluid to flow into as you hook up. I have noticed that this coupler does help, BUT, once in a while, I still have to fight it. The verdict is still out. What I may eventually end up doing is converting to the screw together type they also offer...

I took a pic of this connect under pressure next to their standard male coupler:

I have a third function for my 4n1 on my FEL. It uses the FF connectors. One side ALWAYS locks up when removing the 4n1 to put my forks on - or whatever it does it regardless of the fact that I always "stir" the hydraulics to relieve pressure (including operating the 3rd function and stirring) before I disconnect the bucket. I ALWAYS have to crack the fitting to relieve pressure. I don't know if this is a "function" of the FF or if it is something to do with the way the 3rd function was installed but it is a fact of life. I plan to install an inline valve so I can crack it open to relieve pressure when I go to reconnect.

Oh yes, the line I crack is on the 3rd function, not on the bucket.

If you are saying the same connector locks up every time then I suggest the connector is defective. If you are saying the 3rd function system locks up and which connector freezes up varies then I suggest it's something to do with your 3rd function system. In neither case do I think it happens only because you have FF connectors. Curious situation indeed.

A swipe across the surface with gloved thumb works for me. :)

"In theory" they are betting on the leverage gained with the system to overcome the hydraulic pressure. I've never used one so can't testify either way.

Not exactly. If you go through their material at least some of the connectors include a pressure release system that allows the pressure to be released before the main part of the connector is seated.
