M7060 - Can additional rear wheel weights be added if the tractor has cast centers?

Yes. You can look the price up at Messicks or any dealer that loads Kubota parts catalogs with prices. Just be sitting down when you look because I recall $1,000 a wheel center and that's for the center only. Basically, forget about it. Eventually, someone will cast a knock off the centers.

Also, the Kubota wheel is the universal ag standard of 8 bolt on an 8" bolt circle with a 6" center hole. Lots of tractors use, and have used this pattern so for thinking outside the box you could find centers, wheels and weights to fit at a junkyard if you knew what you were doing.

No need to take a special measure. After getting the diameter of the wheels from you I'm most certain they are real close to having a 21-inch diameter.

Let me add that lots of guys do all the homework to find wheels, etc that fit and neglect to make sure they have the right size lug holes in the wheels. Too small can be drilled out but too big can be a problem. Also for wheels, you could search for burned tractors with those wheels and centers on. Going rate is 50 cents on the retail dollar. There is a pair in Canada I saw recently but you have to search the net to find them. Get a couple guys and have a road trip.

Also, some people have cast centers and don't want them. Trade plus cash turns a lot of heads if you don't need them anyway.

I was just doing some homework on cast centers on Messicks. Their site says the cast centers are 186lbs (I am assuming that is per center)?? Is that correct? I had read that they weigh much more than that. One person was saying 900lbs for two. If 186lbs for $1,133 is correct then I will surely never have cast centers.

I can't recall exactly but when I researched tractor weights a few years ago came away with the belief the difference in weight between the setup with steel centers and the version with cast centers. I've handled them and they are more than 186 lbs.

You can look up the weight of the version with steel wheels and then compare with the cast center version.

Okay, got my wheel weights but they are so scratched up I'll need to strip and repaint them before installing. From looking at them its not apparent how they will line up so that they'll be in the exact center of rotation - no aligning pins or tapers. Am I missing something? How did you do yours?

Don't "strip" anything. These are wheel weights and they just get banged up again. I'm like you, however and like things pretty so I get a can of Kubota brand Orange II ($43) and spray the weights before I put them on. You will still scratch them putting them on so save some in the can. After they're on you touch them up with a brush. Don't paint the bolts.



They will line up just fine. You slowly tighten and then whack them and keep whacking them with a BIG rubber hammer from Harbor Freight. You can also jimmy them with a pry bar and will scratch them again. I use a giant screwdriver (3 ft) also from Harbor Freight. The second set you just slowly wiggle, whack and pry into position. Look at the pictures I posted earlier in this thread.

This is brute work and you will scratch those weights again so just relax and touch them up. Most wheel weights get banged up terribly. I come along, spray with a coat of fresh factory paint and people think they just came in at the dealer. Mine from the photos I posted earlier in this thread were all scratched and marked. Imagine what a 1,000 lb rear weight would look like by the time it showed up. Weights only need to look good from 20 ft away and not 8".

Weights are the red headed stepchildren of ag parts and that's just the way it is. You'll be fine and in a few years be using them as an anvil to pound things flat. And the good news? You'll probably never lose a penny on them unless you sell in a hurry. Weights are valuable and give traction when you need it. Plus, they are beautiful when painted and women fawn over the real Kubota Orange II factory color. It's true.



Here's what my front end weights looked like before and after. They looked like typical weights until I painted them. Oh, if you don't have a spray gun, rattle can paint from Kubota ($12) ONLY is perfectly fine. No alternate brands or you'll regret in in six months. Here you go.

So...relax, take a deep breath and if you must, paint them. But no "stripping" anything. It won't matter. If you get scared, have the dealer put them on but just know they will scratch them. After the first time doing this you'll be a seasoned veteran and dispensing similar advice. You'll see.

Also, post pics of your effort and results.

I'll be stripping the old paint! They look like they've been painted using a mop -huge runs!

I'm not going with the orange, I'll be painting them using the same color as the base tractor - dark gray.
