Is Rock and Roll dead. Part 2.

/ Is Rock and Roll dead. Part 2. #91
I just had to chime in to this thread to say thanks for mentioning Greta Van Fleet. I'd never heard of them. When I listened to them, my immediate reaction was to recoil in disgust that they ripped off Led Zeppelin. But, something drew me back to that video and I ended up looking up all of their stuff. They are legitimately talented! I don't think they directly copied any specific Zep songs, but have managed to make new music in the same style. I thought about it, Zep has been out of business for 40 years now. They only made 8 studio albums, which really isn't a large volume of material. And Zep themselves didn't completely invent every aspect of their sound in the beginning either (as some lawsuits have pointed out...) What's so wrong if a group of musicians who have the chops to do it want to carry on the torch and make new music in that style? My conclusion is not a darn thing. I've ordered their album, and am looking forward to hearing how they evolve. Thanks TBN'ers!

LZ is/was hardly the epitome of R&R...ask anyone that is NOT a fanboy or zep aficionado to name one of their songs and they will likely only be able to name StH...

They are the only band for which at one time I had every album. I tried to do the same with Rush, but couldn't keep up.

I was more of a Doors fan...later it was Tom Petty

Petty and the bands of that era were more my style, but with the crowd I ran with back in the '70's there was something wrong with you if you didn't like LZ.

Some of the crowd I was a bad influence on thought the same thing about 'The Mothers of Invention'...(I do still have a mostly complete library of their work)...!

My first rock band was Kiss. Then AC/DC, Van Halen, and the like. Led Zep. Ozzy. The older I get the harder I like it. Most guys I know that are my age are still stuck in the classic stuff. I’ve heard so much ac/dc I don’t care to hear any more. Same with lynyrd skynyrd. Went to a Disturbed/Breaking Benjamin concert summer before last. One of the best ones I’ve been to. Liked a good bit of hair bands in the 80’s. Currently my favorite station is Turbo on Sirius xm. Late 90’s and 2000’s. Not as familiar with stuff from the last 2 or 3 years.

Here's one more GVF on Carson Daily....
I like it. Get past all the "sounds like" and come to the "sounds great" side. ;)
Crowd is happy.

I use to be a bit elitist with my musical tastes, wondering how so many other people could listen to such crappy music, when my choices are far superior!! (Now I only have that attitude in Friendly Politics ) Ahh maturity. Subjectivity. In the end, it doesn't matter if they're a cover band, a rip-off band, a synchronized dancing boy band, Nickleback, or anybody else that would make me stick an ice pick in my ear; it doesn't matter... If their fans have fun and enjoy it, then it is good. Period.

No Deep Purple or Ten Years After fans. I must be weird, I watch the 70's show the Waltons and then listen to about three Tom Petty songs before going to bed.
