Well with Air Volume Control instead of Bladder Tank

Thanks. It sounds like you are familiar with the type of system I have. I think I'll add a T fitting and a Schrader valve for now. When the time comes, I'll replace it with a bladder tank. The air volume control was working perfectly until I replaced the pump switch.

Okay, procedure to re-pressurize . Drain tank, add air to 2 psi below the switch cut-in pressure, e.g., switch is 30-50, pressurize to 28psi and turn the water back on. Still needs to be checked occasionally and repressurized correctly. I agree with others, replace the tank with a bladder one. I have had both types and will never go back to a bladderlless one.

I have a air over water tank like you. Had problems with my sniffer valve clogging so last year I switched to this micronizer http://www.wellmate.com/Files/KnowledgeBase/ItemDownload/en/wm107-micronizer-specsheet-mr14.pdf . I also have the type of avc in my tank like the one shown on the pdf. It has worked very well for me and has maintained the water air levels correctly. I need this type of pressure tank as our water has a strong sulfur gas smell to it and this allows the gas to vent out before coming in the house.

If your system is like mine, there is a check valve that lets water out of a small section of pipe above the pump. Every time the pump comes on a blast of air goes in the tank. The air valve regulates the level of air in the tank. If float valve quits working, you have too much air. If the check valve quits working you have too little air. Both conditions lead to short cycling. This can lead to the pump over heating and seizing to the casing. No way to fix it other than drilling another well. If you have a check valve, a bladder tank will not work. Good luck.

Thanks. My air regulation system is working, I just let all the air out when I replaced the pressure switch. As noted above, I decided to install a Schrader valve to speed up the process of replacing the air.
