If I pull a gun on you and shoot you after you've pulled a gun on me who is at fault?

Again, had that tailgater not been operating recklessly none of this would have happened.

One stupid action resulted in an opposite(?) stupid action. Action #1 resulted in Action #2. W/o Action #1 there would be no discussion of this outcome.

I would submit that if more people figured that this kind of thing could happen there would be far less tailgating.

I'll bow out now because this is a dead horse and is derailing from the hauling/towing theme of the thread.

An Ontario Provincial police officer I spoke with said it is an impossible charge to prove in court. He said, he himself has been tailgated by 18 wheelers. Why not make it a thousand dollar offense like talking on or even touching a cell phone while driving that doesn't have to be proved?

It's also against the law in this state to speed up when somebody is trying to pass; which is equally hard to enforce. Yet if they set a rookie up with radar on certain passing lanes, and especially on "slower traffic keep right" truck lanes, it would quickly become obvious how many people will poke along at 5-15 mph under the speed limit, only to accelerate in places where it's possible to pass. All too often they will slow back down if a car's coming the other way...

In there defense the passing sections are the best road and maybe they feel more comfortable and go faster.

Witnessed what could have been a tragedy...

County two lane highway as clear and unobstructed as could be.

I'm coming the other direction.

A farmer pulling a wagon with hazards was making a left turn onto a farm road... the the big rig slowed and stopped.

A 5 series BMW whips out from behind the big rig flying past just as the tractor was turning...

I had not seen the BMW so it must have been tailgating.

I though collision was imminent... but the BMW veered further right and ended up in the drainage ditch... had I not been slowing to let the tractor pass... the BMW would have hit me.

Young driver in a hurry with a performance car and a heavy foot...

In this case the big rig, tractor hauling a wagon and myself did nothing wrong... the immature driver in the 5 series just blasted through a situation without care or concern.

That's why our procedure on the road with tractors or equipment when we are going to be making a left turn,
prior to our turn if on coming traffic clears we swing over in to the middle of the road while still traveling forward,
then make our left turn. If we have to stop for oncoming traffic I'll be hugging the centerline of the road and as soon as traffic clears I'll be swing the front end over while trying to see behind me for the idiot that trys to jump around a stopped tractor and wagon with no visability.

That is it...people just don't "Think"! Multitasking while driving will kill us all eventually.

Similar experience re BMW driver: We had almost reached Silver Lake in the Sierras after a heavy snowfall. 2 lane road and the sort of winter driving with 6 ft walls of snow on both sides of icy pavement. The BMW came up quickly behind me and passed just as we reached a blind curve where the snow walls prevented escape if there had been oncoming traffic. A few minutes later we heard a crunch and then came upon the BMW spun backward and 50 ft down a gentle snowy slope, everybody out and trying to push it. We laughed and didn't stop. :)

Oops.

"near Sao Paulo, Brazil. Truck was hauling a backhoe, somehow the arm rotated outside of the trailer before entering the toll area, arm hit a post on the toll plaza, roof went down. Nobody was hurt."

That bus driver knew what was going to happen.

That brake checker should get their next license FREE! Hats off to them! Job well done!

And yet, I bet (if still alive) that individual WILL STILL NOT change their driving style.

I dearly hope the recording trucker turned that tape into the police.
I also hope they can get the license plate of the mini van that willfully endangered all those people that had to dodge the victim.
I also hope the family in the vehicle that was assaulted are alright.

The mini van had plenty of time to move to the right just as the vehicle in front of him did.
He only stayed in the left lane until he could get his jollies causing the accident.
You notice, he pulled over right after & left the scene of the accident.
He NEEDS to be in PRISON before he kills someone.

Not my pics, but this happened a couple miles from my place on the Trans Canada Highway. Some contractor truck left a bunch of tools and axes loose on his truck and they all flew off on the highway. Unfortunately they were not identified as the owner of this new F150 probably had some other things on his mind at the time!

It's unfortunate he wasn't caught because he needs to go to jail.

Didn't get a picture, but saw a pickup pulling a equipment type trailer with a decent size age tire in the middle of the deck with a trash can stuck in the center of the tire. Only tie down was a 1in strap holding the lid on the plastic trash can. Looked like a new tire.

This was traveling at 70+ down a busy highway

I wouldn't have followed him long enough to take a picture either.
