L6060- Half mile paved driveway

Piston - tell me that top picture is just a rare occurrence. Being dressed like an Eskimo - being out in the cold - AND having to clear all the fresh snow off before you can even start the tractor. I'm going to throw another log on...........

My carport is not much be it does keep the sun off the tractor/tires and also keeps the snow off. NOTHING can compare to an open station tractor in the cold - the pleasure of lowering your hemorrhoids down onto frozen vinyl. I smell the pines - even on the coldest day.

Reminds me of that famous saying - - "I love the smell of Napalm in the morning" - Robert Duval

Unfortunately that is a common occurrence! Someday my dream will come true for a heated cab!

It’s not a problem to drive through one or even two feet of snow when pulling a blade. I commonly use my box blade for snow removal as well, and pull so much snow it’s wrapping around the rear tires.

Leon,
Have you seen that MK Martin is offering a single stage blower?

Thanks for the heads up on that. I would LOVE to try out their 84" wide snow cutter (Model 3084). But I'm afraid to ask how much they cost.

Can't see trying to drive through a four ft drift dragging one of those oddball reverse blowers. Seems ok for a little snow at an appt complex according to the TUBE vids.

Wow, great insight from so many..a sincere thank you for sharing all your thoughts!

Leonz, learned a lot from your post. I went and read all about the difference between snow throwers and snow blowers, which I was clueless about. Also now know what the difference is between single stage and two stage. What is still unusual to me is what the difference is between the shear pins verse the models with the pressure relief valves that I believe supposedly eliminate the need for fumbling around trying to replace shear pins?

The normond 82 inverted rear blowers seem really neat. I wonder what they cost? The one downside is you can't use them to attack a pile of snow, or tear through the 4 foot high pile the road plow leaves for you at your driveway entrance.

I am going to order the v plow from quick attach for $4,500. Just not sure what to supplement it with.

I think I should order the ballast box for some weight...I believe it can hold up to 800 LBS.

The actual shear pins still exist and are a last defense in a hydraulic driven snow blower. If the impeller becomes clogged or jammed the relief valve will open up and the oil will bypass the hydraulic motor and return to tank.

I sent you a PM.

Are you planning on buying chains? I would invest in a good set (all 4 tires) of chains. The chains, V Plow, and a LOT of weight on the back of the tractor will turn that into a blizzard's worst nightmare!

The Normand INV-N82, would run between 8-9k dollars. Snow drifts from the road plow are no issue, the advantage is you can keep your FEL mounted, so of course you have that to knock down any pile imaginable. Even without it, you can back into drifts or windrow's from the road plows and easily get rid of them. For the amount of time you save blowing the entire half mile driveway, you more than make up for the extra 60 seconds it might take to clear a larger windrow. Most everyone who is against these commercial inverted blowers is due to the fact that they don't actually know that much about them.

However, even with the ideal setup of an inverted blower (which is of course considerably more than the plow) it will not be able to beat the speed of a properly ballasted and chained tractor with a good heavy snow plow.

Weight is traction. Without traction your 60hp L6060 wont plow any better than my 40hp L4060. I have loaded R4s & had the 1,700lbs flail mower on the back. You'll want over double that 800lbs, probably a ton or so on the back.

Dozens of snow removal setups, and we all have our favorites.
I prefer a front ssqa blade / bucket and standard rear blower or blade. 90% of the time I have blades front and rear.
The best implements in the world won’t matter if you lose traction... weight is king in snow removal.

While weight is helpful, chains are what will put the power down.
