Quiet compressors

This is the one I got. Its MUCH quieter than the Bostich pancake I used to have. It still has noise to it though, but I can hold a conversation while standing next to it without shouting. It does have a significant weight to it! If you plan on carrying it around build a cart. Otherwise I'm happy with it (for the most part, had 2 faulty units, 3rd one is good). I got this because I needed the higher CFM for my remodeling work.

It's not as quiet as the ones you're looking at, but I thought I would through this in the ring, in case you or someone else needs more CFM and can handle the noise over the CAT. The noise is more like a riding mower at idle (but not quite as loud) than at WOT like the pancake compressor I used to have.

There was a guy wanting a quiet compressor over on welding web and the 1 he bought was very quiet about 53 db,
it only has a 50 % duty cycle though.
If you don't need to push it to full time running may be a viable option

He was pointed to a phone app db meter test. his words

"It appears they are pretty darn close, with the machine running, and standing 25ft away(as per their statement) The app reads it at 54db. The thing is pretty darn quiet, when it’s running it makes a low humm, not irritating at all."

I got this from my grandpa. Its quiet enough you can watch tv in the next room. I use it for things around the house away from my garage. I guess its quiet because of how slow it runs?

Anyone know where I can get another braided cloth air hose? I like this one alot. I know it's old though.

I bought a Rolair and it is very quiet at 60 db... keep it under the bench.

My 30 gallon Craftsman blows me out of the shop sometimes.. Very loud.. I would like to find something half as loud for sure..

A good thing about a loud compressor is I hear it when I forget to turn it off!

Big belt driven, oil lubed, slow running

IR , Saylor Beall, Dayton, SpeedAir, Quincy, Kellogg and others are prized for sure.

wanting new and quiet (on a budget) limits choices a bit.

My compressor always made me jump when it started. I moved it to a small room within the garage and just ran lines in the garage, added a regulator and gauge in the garage. I barely hear it now when it's running. It does get warmer in the room, but it's 5 x 8 and it never gets too warm for the compressor. It's one of the changes that you say, should have done that years ago...

I have a 200 lb Ingersoll Rand compressor in the Mendocino shop, together with 250 ft of air hose. That is the slow turning belt-drive cast iron oiled crankcase compressor, relatively quiet. Doesn't bother me when it is on. Then I have the 70 lb Emglo, which has served me well as a framing compressor and everything else for decades. It is in semi retirement in the Sacramento garage. It is pretty loud. It has an oiled cast iron crankcase, direct drive. Now I have the 34 lb CAT compressor, which will get a workout this winter on interior trim work. It can be carried up and down stairs with one hand and is really quiet. No oil, direct drive, turns at 1680 rpm. Lastly I have a Senco, 20 lbs, suitable for brad nailers but marginal for anything bigger. It is not as quiet as the CAT but close. Each compressor has a different function and the size and other specs reflect that.
