Life Long GM Guy....New Ford

hmm. i had one dealer problem in my 6 years with my 09 gmc, 95k miles bought new. replaced front brakes and wheel bearings beyond fluid maintenance. had to have the throttle body replaced under warranty, and i have had 0 so far on my 85k mile 2015, bought with 60k on it. Avg mpg on that one is 18.4 over the last 6k miles. Both of these spend a lot of time going up and down the Rockies and haul a slide in camper near gvwr when loaded up.

we had one recall on our Volt, Which is nearly free to own, paid off and cost per mile for electricity and fuel for our use case is about 5 cents.

keep all that GM bashing going though, its cool to be a GM basher these days.

I have tried to adapt to the auto start/stop in this truck but find myself turning it off most of the time. I finally decided to find a way to permanently turn it off. I saw where people were taking their dash apart and putting a jumper wire on the switch. I didn't much like that idea. Next, I saw where some people where buying a bluetooth OBDII adapter and using Forescan software to disable it. I was considering doing that when I ran across "the fix" in a forum.

Disconnect the current sensing cable from the battery. This prevents the auto stop from working since it thinks the battery is charging.

This has worked great for me. Everything else in the truck works normal. No lights, bells or indications that anything is different. I even was able to do the same thing to my wife's VW Atlas. I am happy now!

Except you've now taken away your ability to quickly choose when to use it, while driving. Not sure what's so hard about pushing a button.

Didn't know that was offered.

First time I saw such a thing was 1985 in Seoul Korea. All the cab drivers did that at the stoplights. But they did it manually. :)

The mechanic in me calls BS in regards to savings. Every engine starts rich. If the shutdown is 30 seconds or less you'll actually burn more fuel. Then factor in the wear and tear of startup and the "carbon footprint" will increase.

But it sounds good in the commercials and brochures.

This is not a customer driven feature. You can thank your government & CAFE credits.

My neighbor stopped last night at the end of my driveway. His whole family has been die hard Ford People getting new every couple of years, yet he was driving a new Z71. He said it was about dealer location. Who knows?

I gotta say though, that I don't particularly like the Ford Brand, but the last ones I saw, the interior sure beat the New Sierra all to heck.

that's probably the worst part about my 2015 gmc, the switch gear on the dash is fairly terrible. makes up for it by being able to reach over the bedside to the bottom of the bed.

I have evaluated the feature for almost a year and decided that I do not like it and wanted it permanently disabled without the nuisance button. Its just a personal choice. If I ever want to use the feature again, all I have to do is plug the connector back in.

I don't think anyone in this thread is bashing GM. I am certainly not, having driven them for years. I am just trying another brand and sharing my experiences.

My 2017 F150 doesn稚 have the auto start stop feature. I知 glad it doesn稚. A lot of people find it annoying.

I don't care for the feature either. The bonus is they come with a super heavy duty starter. By disabling the auto start stop the starter should last a very very long time.

Yeah, I didn't hear any bashing either. Been a good exchange of experiences so far.
