In the shop today I opened up a box of woodworking odds and ends that came to me recently along with a Rockwell wood shaper.

I am stumped by these metal gauges or spacers. They are 2" and 3" except for one that is bent to 2 5/8". Does anyone know what they are used for?

They are dogs to hold two boards together side by side by hammering them into the end grain. I think used when glueing the boards together. The inner taper will draw the boards tight. I found a bit of a description in this quick google search. Making Your Own Timber Dogs - Paul Sellers' Blog

I am building a snow plow for my tractor. I had old Grasshopper blade laying around so I widened it by 40" and build quick attach for it. While building it I run out of MIG wire so I sent my wife to get it from a welding supply. The spool cost 73.33 as before but now also plus 19.25 steel tariff surcharge. That is about 26% price increase. I also needed few steel plates for another project and found they are about 50-75% more expensive than before DT became the leader of free world. I am on a fence now should I buy them now or wait until after the DT wins the trade war. I think I should buy them now because it could be even worse later on.
I also built a lifting arm I am using to move and store implements in the shed. I have dollies but they don't work too well because of the floor in the shed is made of cement tiles laying on dirt. The floor is quite bumpy after years of use.

Lifting arm with the snow blade hanging on it. Work in progress.

Quick attach for the snow blade.

Modified Grasshopper blade. Work in progress. The blade is 88" wide now. I will make it little taller. If the tractor be able to push the blade full of snow I might add sides to increase the volume.
Next project is a tree spade.

The price of stuff seldom goes down when you're buying, there is always an excuse not to. Buy it now and avoid the next price hike.

The seller likely is just guessing at what his restock supply will cost, and is immediately tacking on an extra profit charge.
The "Buy it now" is a panic buying game that the seller is hoping to win.
Maybe...seek out another source? On line?

I remember when the coffee vending machine at work was .15 for a cup. Then Brazil had a long drought and market prices went up. A cup of coffee went from .15 to .25 with the promise that the price would drop when market prices dropped.

It never went back to .15

Buy what you need now, it may get expensive if DT looses the war.

My bucket truck isn’t a bucket truck anymore after a night in the shop. It’s a Chevy 3500HD that’s about twice as heavy duty my current dump truck is. It’s really a 1 ton that thinks it’s a Kodiak. It’s got way bigger brakes, substantial upgrade in axels, the current combined tire rating is 20,800 pounds, but I’ve seen 19.5s with 1000 pounds a tire heavier rating, the frame is a lot bigger. All in all I think it’s a lot better candidate for a dump truck. I haven’t decided what to do with my lift body as I need that as well. IMG_0615.JPGIMG_0618.JPG

I decided I couldn’t wait for a Saturday night bath and took advantage of today’s good weather to clean Quincy, the compressor I bought last week.

I covered the motor and electrical box but remembered to scrub behind the airs.
