So my driveway is about 3/4 mile long. I hate that it is gravel, albeit well maintained and in great shape. But my poor Camaro... I can hear the ticking of gravel no matter how slow I go due to the drag radial tires. I am considering a new Corvette but I have to do something about this driveway before that bad boy comes home.

Chip and seal? Paving? What do you think I would be looking at for cost? Thoughts?

We drive off to one side with our mini-vans. I'm afraid the Vette will drag on anything short of concrete drive.

Around here it's about $3/SF if you have a decent base already. Assuming a 12' wide drive at 4000' long you are looking at roughly $150k.

Store it off property.

Build a garage at the main road.

pave it. I just did 700' of concrete for $41k. 9' wide with mesh and brushed. 20180927_123425.jpg

Not even close to an option. Not storing a ZR1 Vette anywhere other than my climate controlled building. I also build hot rods and just in general need to not have a gravel driveway. lol

You could switch to building off-road racers. :D

This is one I was working on a couple years ago. Has the right tires at least!

Put a Draw-Tite hitch on it and pull a small trailer to carry your race tires in until you need them. Jack and a battery impact and you should be all set.

I found that crushed asphalt did a MUCH better job of staying out of sticky tires when you had it rolled with a vibratory road roller. Almost as good as regular asphalt. Stays put, too.00305128.jpg

I like your taste in cars.

Thirty seven years ago when we moved down from AK and built here - I got a firm price for my mile long gravel driveway from a local contractor - $17K. My driveway was busted out of virgin land - no preexisting road, trail or cow path. On a whim - I asked the contractor how much for an asphalt paved driveway. His battery powered calculator ran out of battery power before he could complete the estimate. I was convinced - gravel would be just fine.

You mentioned in the OP that chip and seal was an option. I payed $1 per square foot to have my gravel drive chip and sealed about 3.5 years ago. Best thing I ever did. It's holding up great.

My 1/4 drive at 10" wide ran me just over $12,000, so you should be able to get away with it for less than half the price of that zr1.

Now we are talking! That sounds great. The drive is actually 9’ wide. 36k square feet at $1 foot sounds doable. Need to start making some phone calls I suppose.

Maybe top driveway off 1-2 inches crusher run roll pack it same time.

Just make sure you ask about maintenance. They told me to have them back after 3 or 4 years to put another coat on. I'm assuming it is going to be less than the original price per square foot, but it never hurts to ask. If it costs half as much it is still well worth it.

Here is a second vote for crushed asphalt, not milled, but crushed and roller compacted right over your existing gravel.

What do you do with the tires on the other side of the vehicle when using the ten inch wide driveway?

Around here a vette is just another utility vehicle. 😛

there's up front cost and repeated maintenance. You need to factor in both.

And base too - not enough base and the paving may crack (blacktop in particular).

I have about 1000 sf of blacktop and another 2000 sf of slag (limestone after being used in steel making process). Cost to blacktop a few years back was $17,000. I have to seal the blacktop annually pretty much, $180 (or more if you buy the best sealer) plus my time.
Concrete (6") was quoted $36,000 - but that included removing the slag as leaving it under concrete can cause it to break up due to the iron in the slag.

Farm has nice long gravel driveway and we insiste you dirve SLOWLY up/down it. And that stops ALL the rocks from hitting the cars.

So- gravel with dust, pack it, and DRIVE SLOWLY!

Only used for motorcycle traffic :D

Meant 10' (almost did it again).
