Yes sir 2in standard spec for parking lots city streets VDOT subdivisions. This assumes a good stone base of 6 to 8 inches

Interesting. We had an 18" stone put in our driveway, then 2" base course asphalt and the following year 1" finish course asphalt. I have no idea what the specs were/are - that's just what they called it.

I'd figure a way to trailer that Vette the last 3/4 mile before spending bucu bucks upgrading that gravel driveway. Surely you can figure this out and solve your problem for a few thousand bucks instead of tens of thousands. As for the Camero--why bother? It's a Camero, not a Vette.

Good luck

Wow... That is a heck of a reply. The Camaro costs a lot more than a new ZR1 does. My cars are driven. A lot. Youæ±*e telling me you would trailer a car in an out of your driveway when going to and coming from work three to four times a week rather than paving it?

For the record, I have not been complaining about the cost. I knew fully well when we purchased the place that this was going to be part of it, and that is okay with me. I was merely asking for opinions on different ways to meet my goals.

JMHO - -- flash puppy - get a brand new Jeep or similar. Use it as your daily driver. Save a million dollars. Drive the fancy ones only when you need to. SLOW DOWN when driving the fancy ones in your driveway.

When we moved down from AK, to the property, we knew it would be a mile long gravel driveway. We came down with a brand new 4WD pickup. Something suitable for use in the country. I wonder - are you having trouble fitting in with country life. Am I impressed that you have fancy vehicles, paved driveways - yet still live in the country - - no, but I question your commitment to country life. Perhaps, even your very sanity.

One of my neighbors came to this area from the Seattle area. Finally, after five years - he realized that his Porsche 911 simply wasn't a country type vehicle. He, too, had great difficulties "fitting in". He's part way there now. He drives a monstrous Hummer 1.

I will NEVER deny what you are doing or what you want to do. Your property, your money - but the country way of life - NO.

So, go ahead, tell me you live in the country - but you will not convince me that YOU are country.

Again - JMHO and I call them as I see them. Besides - what real difference does it make, in the overall scheme of things, if I am convinced.

If you're not a car guy you just won't get it.

dnw64 - I'm about as far from being a "car guy" as a human can get. A vehicle, in my terms, is NOTHING more than a means of getting from point A to point B. It does not represent my status, my wealth, my passions. It is simply a tool.

That was my only possible conclusion.

It does not represent my status, my wealth, my passions. It is simply a tool.

For car guys it's ONLY about passion.

dnw64 - ALSO - I'm about as far from being PC as anybody can be. One of my MAIN concern is that I will say something and offend somebody. That is definitely NOT my objective. I hope my comments did not upset flash puppy.

I had a passion once. We were married and lived happily together for 46 years. She passed nine years ago. My one and only passion passed nine years ago.

Anyhow - I can appreciate a beautiful car - just as I can appreciate a beautiful work of art. It's all about perception and nothing to do with specifics. I don''t care about the quality of the paints used nor the type of canvas. Likewise - I don't care about the type, size nor HP of an engine.

Geez - I hope all this discussion gets us down the driveway. All this rain I've been getting here in the last 48 hours. I have a 150 foot section of my mile long driveway that's just soaking it all up and becoming a real hog waller. People are shocked when they look at my Jeep and see all the mud. They ask and are further shocked when my answer is - "my driveway". That section "shuts down" when the driveway freezes solid. It will, again, get repaired this coming spring.

Bingo. That video I posted earlier... I hand built about everything on that. I have thousands of hours in that. I built a powder coat oven so I could powder coat my own suspension pieces. Frenching the fender well headers into the cab. Hours and hours running excel spreadsheets to figure out how to build a functional suspension that would handle well and predictably. It is what I am passionate about.

Oosik- You haven’t offended me in the least bit and don’t worry, I have thick skin.

It is not a contest about who is country and who is not, but I can assure you that I’ve had my arms up the rear end of a cow more times than I count. Our livestock eats before me in the morning and after me in the evening everyday. I don’t own a pair of shoes that are not RedWings and I can not remember the last time I didn’t wear jeans. I just like REALLY fast cars.

I was lucky enough to be given a pretty good noodle in my noggin and it allows me to turn a pretty good buck problem solving things for folks who make stuff. (Kinda self-employed, kinda semi-retired, sold my business a few years back).

I am truly sorry to hear of your wife. She must have been a wonderful woman and you are immensely lucky to have been blessed with all the happy years the two of you shared.

At the risk of throwing this thread totally off the rails all you need to do is retrofit it with air suspension ;).

I only kid slightly, we've got a gravel + crusher rock driveway and our low slung car gets a nice 4" lift at full height.

I’ve got a Nova with Ridetech Suspension all around. Fully aware of air suspension.

My driveway is one mile long gravel. I have a 150 foot section that, during spring/fall rainy season, gets like a hog waller. This section was noted during driveway construction but still not properly constructed. So - it's OK when the driveway freezes, rock hard, in the winter and again after maintenance in the spring.

Here comes my brand new 1998 Harley Low Rider. A gift from my wife for my 55th birthday. It was a real PITA to wait until June when the driveway was "good". Or quit riding in the early fall because of the "hog waller". For many years I had a small, locked shed down at the end of the driveway. I kept the Harley there during the muddy season.

Get all geared up - ride my ATV down to the shed - off I'd go.

Over the years I've "improved" this spot and now have a narrow path skirting all this mess. I can now ride the driveway and the narrow path and substantially extend my riding season.

I will admit - like you fellows and your passion for nice vehicles - I have a passion for riding motorcycles. After may years of constant - BLAAAAAAA, turned out straight exhaust - I quit the Harley. I now ride a BMW R1200GSA. Quiet as a mouse, urinating on a ball of cotton. Now I hear the wind - I hear that Meadow Lark on the fence post, as I pass by. Harleys are still great. I just, no longer, appreciate all the noise and vibration.

I understand perfectly where you're coming from.

I had a passion once. We were married and lived happily together for 46 years. She passed nine years ago. My one and only passion passed nine years ago.

Sorry to hear that. You are blessed to have had such a long and happy relationship. I'm still a youngster with only 31 years on the marriage clock.

I have a 150 foot section of my mile long driveway that's just soaking it all up and becoming a real hog waller. People are shocked when they look at my Jeep and see all the mud. When you "repair" it, have you considered doing a major overhaul? Dig out 18-24" and put down road fabric? The stuff really is amazing. I know of a logging job where they needed to put a road across a swamp. The fabric guy came and laid fabric all the way across and left. The only problem was that as they started dumping gravel on it, as they went along the material bunched up a bit and they ended up 10' short on the other side. The road held up beautifully except that last 10'.

Yes, I have considered a complete repair. However, you know human nature. I have a small path around the "waller" and can get my motorcycle out OK. Otherwise, its a slow trip thru with my Jeep. Procrastination - an amazing word and philosophy. Similar to - "Oh, I'll get to that tomorrow".

I heard/read some about road fabric. It certainly would be nice to have a permanent fix. Doing the "keyhole shot" on the motorcycle is going to, surely, backfire on me one of these days. So - I will look further. I do not relish dumping my new BMW into the waller. Or me either.
