I'm about a month to 6 wks into a new Mahindra 3550. Yesterday I purchased a 66 inch MTL grapple and this third funtion kit.

Chief-Electro-Hydraulic Third Function Kit | eBay

I've looked through my owners manual and googled, Youtubed etc but can't find a diagraph of which port is power beyond and which is return to tank etc. Anybody know I can find a drawing. If I had my tractor handy I'd take a pic of the valve block, I bet someone could point it out to me. My tractor is about 3 hrs away or I would take a pic.

When I was at the dealer the other day, service guy showed me which was power beyond, but I can't remember. Seems like it had a fitting coming out of it. have thought it would have a plug in it.

Also, is the quick disconnects at the back of the tractor tied back to power beyond and tank return. I was wondering if they are, why can't I add my third funcion valve there.

Comments please, thanks, Billy

Normally the loader valve's PB port feeds any aux valves and then the 3pt last (it goes right into the tank from there). The hydraulic valves are in a series circuit, one after the other. You can connect your new valve anywhere in that circuit after the loader valve.

ericm979,

Thanks very much, good info. I really need to look at my tractor to grasp what you said. I think I understand part of it, the part of do not understand is (its goes right into the tank from there) part. I was hoping for a PB port with a plug in it to make it simple, may not be the case. Thanks, Billy

Doesn't Mahindra offer a workshop manual. All your answers would be there. That is how I really learned the hydraulics on my BX. Money well spent.

Service manual for my tractor is about 90 dollars. With a seven yr Warrenty didn’t think I would need on but maybe I do.

Manuals are very helpful. Just don't let your wife put them in a "safe place". I have been looking for that "safe place" for 2 years!

I don’t have to worry about my wife. I’m the king of putting things up where I will remember where they are!

$90 is cheap!

The line from the PB port will go back to the rear of the transmission to feed the 3pt cylinders inside the back of the transmission housing, or to the accessory valves if you have them. The tank line will also go to the transmission (that's the tank) but often not all the way to the back. On my Branson it goes into the transmission case about halfway back. The 3pt cylinders are usually inside the tank and the valve to control them often is as well. Since that valve is the last in the chain, it's output just drains into the tank.

When you're not operating any valves, the constant flow from the pump just goes in each valve's input and out it's output to the next valve. When you operate a valve it opens a work port which then sends fluid to a cylinder.

The loader valve may have markings for the ports. T for tank and P for power beyond is common but there's no standard.

Ever since joining this forum I have been amazed at folks that will spend $20K+ on their tractor but hesitate buying the Workshop manual for$100. If you never use it to do a major repair it at least can familiarize you with the components and lead to deciding to fix a minor item or take it to the dealer shop. My dealer has a one hour minimum whether they fix it or not. There is more than the cost of the WSM right there.

I’ve never hesitated on getting a service manual, only had my new tractor a little over a month. Didn’t know I was going to need one right away, seven year Warrenty. Guess I should have bought the service manual first.
