No - I had 2.5" spacers for chains - they were all torqued to spec....but with all the snow ploughing (my drive way is 1 km long) they must have slowly came loose, then sheered right off! I checked the other side and it was loosening up as well. So I took the other side off as then spent a few hours yesterday making the chains are super tight. Tried out a bit and they do not seem to be rubbing.

I guess it's my bad for not checking to see if things came loose....I wish the spacers were made of steel and maybe I should have ordered 1" or 1.5".

I installed studs on fronts of my little Mahindra. Should have gotten chains. Minimal improvement. Need for steering, not traction as I have chains on rear.

I would imagine the heavier the machine improves the difference they make. I moved snow today with them and did not spin a tire. It’s early yet, but I can see they are making a good improvement. Your “need for steering” sounds like a traction issue as well. Also one of the reason I bought them. The tractor would keep going forward while the R-4s are turned all the way to one side. LOL

What I have found the tractor will push straight no problem - so what i have been doing it running straight down the middle first and then running up each side afterwards with the blade angled and up a bit. Seems to work a little better for me. With the blade on and angle it wants to move the front end all over the place. I do not have chains on the front but i am very wary on how hard it would be on the front end. Hope you guys don't mind me chiming in here....LOL

Just smashed into a 12' stock panel when the plow caught a bunch of frozen hay in the snow and knocked the front end over a foot. Wife will be mad, but it could have been a vehicle or the side of our barn. All snow does is wear out your tractor, then melt in the spring. Broke a link on my cheap front chains, 1/2 hour to mend. I hate plowing snow, especially with my own equipment. I rather move dirt.

It is hard to get a backhoe stuck/stranded.
Just for the ability to get yourself out of a jam, a BH is worth it.
Very hard to get stuck, but done it twice. Scary.
Good reason not to sell my excavator and have good cables and chains on hand.
