Mine is a SRW one ton. The 3/4 and the SRW one ton are very similar, except the one ton has rear leaf springs, an available HO tune with the Aisin, a slightly higher tow rating and some minor programming differences, like setting the TPM anywhere you want without getting a warning. I'm sure the one ton rides stiffer, as mine was brutal when I got it. But the axles, brakes and gear ratios are the same. Not sure if 4.10 is an option in the one ton SRW, or not. If so, it is the right option. I would have picked the stick, but didn't want to give up 200 ft lbs of torque.

Might be a dumb question-can you get the 1 ton with a 6 ft bed?

Yes, if you get the quad cab. Mine is a standard cab and I think it only comes in the 8' bed, in the 3/4 or one ton.

Ok. Need the quad cab for kids and gear. My goal is 250k before trade. Should hit that in 3-4 years easy.

Why would synthetic oil run cooler? Cummins engines don't have a problem with the oil overheating. Look at DonRybaks example and see that Amsoil costs over three times as much as Delo and even Delo should make your engine run for 500,000 miles or more.

Babying these workhorses can be carried to an extreme. They are not fragile!

One of my mechanics claims to have tested many different oils and told me that other than warm up time he had no difference in overal oil temp. Sorry he didn稚 state which gets to temp faster.
I personally won稚 run synthetic simply because no matter what I seem to put it in the engine seems to run louder and anytime I try it something that started with reg oil I get oil leaks within a week.

In theory synthetic oil has less friction so it runs cooler. In the real world I doubt there is enough difference you can see

Thinking about this a bit and wonder if overal temp is mostly controlled by the water cooling system. Then the testing would have to be done very scientifically because in most cars or trucks the only thing it could really do is take more or less time to get to the temp Range the cooling system is designed to keep the engine at. I am by no means a scientist but I do hate oil leaks and noisy engines so everything gets regular oil till someone close to me can show me better results.

I run Rotella 15-40 in my tractors and equipment. What has me curious is the 15k mile change interval. I am at 11k now and 30% on oil life. My oil temp, per the gauge, has gotten to 200. Not sure of accuracy, but that seems a little high to me considering I was running 78mph turning roughly 1800 rpm. Outside temps were in the 60s.

So what was the water temp at the time?

You have a good point here. Should have read closer the first time.
