I think the conditions in the northern LP where Don is at are pretty ideal, plenty of deep snow for most of the winter time, without too much harsh cold - Or the 8-9 month long winters that you yoopers have to deal with, that seems to make everyone get a bit nutty when it's still snowing hard in May.

Down here in the southeast corner of the state, our snow doesn't last very long on the ground, and we only average ~50 inches/yr. Wamp, wamp. It's a "good" winter if we get at least 4-6 weeks sustained with 5+ inches on the ground to play in.

Many go south for a vacation from winter, so they agree with you. Do consider a vacation north in July/August. We are running low to mid 80s, everything is lush and great scenery, water and wilderness. If you can stand a few days of 50s then visit in late September or early October to enjoy our vivid autumn colors.
No passport? No worries visit our next door neighbors in Maine. Great people. Enjoyable accent. (We Canadians don't have an accent, eh). ;-)

That sounds great.

Ditto on this snow rake. I bought one a few years ago and it makes clearing the roof easy and almost fun!

We drive to Lansing sometimes for the weekend to get out of the snow. It feels like Florida in Lansing with NO snow on the ground. We lived in Central Michigan for many years and those winters were so mild compared to Gaylord. Every three weeks the snow would melt and you could see bare ground. When you don't see bare ground for 6 straight months you know it is real winter , lol . Never shoveled our roofs even one time in mid michigan all those years. I have four different roof rakes. Two extendable ones , one with snap together sections and one with the plastic chute . Freezing rain turning to snow then rain again then freeze solid is hard to shovel off the roofs. Just plain snow on the roofs pulls off nice. We camp a lot on the Canadian Border. We like Canadians , we enjoy our visits. Roof shoveling gets easier as the snow off the roof get high as the windows. I just cleaned the driveway and still snowing . I'll clean it again in the morning. Easier to clean it twice than wait til tomorrow . The heavy snow at the end of the driveway from the city plows can be rough to get through over 10" if it sits all night and gets hard. Looks like two more snowfalls later this week after this one. Pretty normal .

I sure don't! I am out in the snow at least every two days. I might not do much other than fire up the car and go to town, but I am out in the sunshine and that is what counts.

Ive spent my share of time enjoying the winter outdoors in places like Alpena MI, Idaho Falls ID, Bismarck ND, Sidney MT, Prudhoe Bay and Fairbanks AK, Nuuk Greenland, Reykjavik Iceland, Alesund Norway, Liechtenstein, Lucerne Switzerland, Rosenheim Germany, Chazy NY, Quebec + some. BC is on the list of places yet to go (Jul, Aug, Sep) have a buddy up on the Toad River.
Australia and New Zealand are on the really want to go list too, but not much snow there.

Bundling up and scrounging for more firewood are no longer at the top of my list of fun things to do.

Skiing, snowshoeing and getting out in some way to see the beauty of winter, keeps 99% of cabin fever away. (ak exercise) We moved to the Lake Superior snow belt some 25+ years ago to enjoy winter.
