Does anyone recognize the brand of mower in the picture..?? I've been around a few in my time, but don't know that I've ever seen a gear box on one quite like this. I'm thinking it maybe an imported model, with that style gear box. Looks to be in decent physical condition, but my main concern is finding parts, if needed, especially involving the gear box.

Any help appreciated, if you at least know the brand.

It's not a Mott/Alamo?

It does look like it is an Alamo brand. Widened the circle on CL ads, and found this picture. Most I've seen were either Ford, or John Deere, with a different style gear box. I feel alot more confident in making an offer on the one above now.

Good Morning DJ54,

I want to welcome you as the newest member of the Flail Mower Nations from the Great State of Ohio.

I believe it is a Mott Interstater that was designed to be mounted in either the front or the rear of the tractor by simply rotating the mounting frame 180 degrees which would allow the mower to be mounted up front where the longer drive shaft on the rear of the gear box allows the mower to be mounted in the front of the tractor.
The planetary gear set up on the gearbox allows a beveled spur gear to provide power to the cross shaft that is connected to the drive pulley under the V belt guard that delivers power to the driven pulley attached to the flail mower rotor.

You can still obtain parts and the flange bearings and V belts are still available as they are a common size.

The fine print if it is still legible will say who made that beautiful flail mower.

You just have to be sure to mount it correctly to the three point hitch using the lower mounting holes to attach the lower link drawbar arms and the lowest mounting hole for the top link and then you can adjust the top link to the level position so that there is no stress on the PTO shaft and the stub shaft on the mule or the flail mower gearbox.

No worries my friend, we are here to help you as many of use have older flail mowers. Me I have a Mathews Company Lawn Genie Pick up mower that is now 40+ years old and it still runs very well.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I haven't heard back from the owner yet, but, it's not like I don't know him. A friend who's social calendar leaves him with a pretty full plate. Plus the fact he told me the PTO shaft got mislaid.
