The L2501 is very capable basic tractor - the BH77 makes it even more versatile/capable machine.
Just get the BH with a Mechanical thumb very well worth the $300 or so addition. As others have said the DT (dual traction) manual transmission is fine, but has its drawbacks not just PTO.
When on the BH with HST if you can reach the pedals (pole or hand) you can move the tractor without leaving the BH seat. On the gear DT model you will be in neutral so you can move it with the BH too..
NOt sure how far you are away from AL here is a dealer with the 2501 and 77 BH $23,500

As far as a trade on your B probably not a lot, an if it were mine, I would keep it and buy a 4' rotary mower or brush hog and keep the BH on the new 2501. More flexibility.
