...Well, as a former medic I have some knowledge as to how to slip away peacefully and painlessly.
Well, good luck with that and others who contemplate taking themselves out rather than be a burden or enter a nursing home if you develop Alzheimer or dementia.

I know how I would like to go naturally, but my end of life here on earth is not my decision to make. When and how is up to God.

I've seen the worst in nursing homes as my Grandfater was naked and setting alone in his room the last time I seen him. Tore my heart out seeing him that way. He was in a state of misery and wanted to die. He had been blind for the last 5 of his 90 years and his quality of life was, well, dismal. Shortly after my visit, thankfully he died.

I was 20 something then and didn't have the brains to raise some cane with the staff there. And, as I got older, it became clear that his daughter, my Aunt, was not keeping an eye on that place.

So yes, I have a plan. Live each day like the gate was left open. And have a family trust that ensures that when the gate closes, I'll have a dignified place to rest.

This is a complicated topic. Let's make sure we all understand, a trust does not assure you a dignified place to rest.

I don't think checking out early is an unpardonable sin and am secure in my salvation. In the infirmity debate, I don't see suicide as an act of cowardice but as a loving and thoughtful gesture towards those we leave behind, if any.

Family.

Your Grandpa wasn't naked because he didn't have a trust.
Gotcha on the family. I was being civil towards my Aunt. Having a large nest egg helps the family find better places than he was in however. There was no nest egg in his case.

We just need to accept that money doesn't buy good care.

I plan on ending up in the 4 seasons resort and spa on the Grand Cayman. So yes, money does have traction...I wish.

Toby Keith has a song titled "Don't Let The Old Man In". Worth a listen.

One of the lines in the song is "How old would you be if you didn't know the date of your birth?"

So I ask the OP, How old would you be if you didn't know the date of your birth??

I'd be 43. I'm 67.

Richard I like the way you think.

I'm only 24, of course when I start to do something physical then I'm 70. For everything else I'm 56.

I and my bride do not plan to be a burden on our boys. I have enough coming in and saved up to insure this. I do not fear death at all. I fear not living, that's why I ride a Harley and ride my sled like I'm 24. :D
