That broken end on the crank handle shaft of my blower was bugging me.

I decided to add an old trailer hitch ball to add weight for momentum.

Parted off the female threaded base

Welded a short length of 3/4” NC to end of handle shaft.

I suspect it was actually intentional so it could be easily removed for travel. Especially on the smaller rivet forges. But if you have no need to move it often, changing tools to suit your use and sense of what is right kind of goes straight to the core of blacksmithing. To my mind, at least...

You are most likely correct. I have seen pictures where the ball is actually two halves bolted together making handle removal easier.

It’s Recycle-Reuse Day.. perhaps this idea may be of use to some.

I save the plastic stops used on adjustable back lawn chairs before they go in the dumpster.

With the use of a small wooden dowel or metal rod they can be used for dispensing rolled products.

Pic of mine used for masking paper. Electrical conduit used for axles.

That finish? Is it a clear coating type thing? I see the can used the word "oil" and black as the color? Tell me more or other use's as that "sealed rust" look is nice.
Either way it's a very nice finish for that forge and the exact look I'd want on that old girl:thumbsup:
