Just want a tractor

I must be missing something here.....
Why buy a NEW (CUT) tractor?
Is Tier IV just so appealing that folks can't resist?
Or.... is it the dual cup holders, stereo radio, and heated seat?

In my case, it was the utter paucity of used tractors within 200 miles; what I could find was either someone thinking that their 2 year old tractor with 100 hours was worth original MSRP (who knows what they did, or didn't, do with it) or 30 years old and "started when it was parked". I looked for a couple years casually and then a year seriously and then said screw it I need to buy new.

(oh, and about those stupid cup holders - they don't fit my 40oz water bottle of course and I can't imagine anything that fit in them staying in them with the tractor bouncing around, I'm removing that as soon as I remember to, hopefully before there's a lot of paint fade around it!)

Somebody has to buy new. If not, there would not be many used ones.

My experience was similar, except that I waited too long before replacing what I had and didn't have time to look. I could turn his question around and ask "Why are you afraid of Tier 4? You sound like all of the fear mongers 40 years ago who complained about new vehicles."

Tier 4 is here to stay, get used to it or Tier 5, Tier 6 etc...........kind of like all the 6.0 ford whiners, the only thing i have put in my 6.0 that i havent had to put on any other diesel that i have owned is an egr valve, egr cooler. EVERY diesel i have owned at some point or another needed an injector, head gasket, fuel pump, blah blah blah...........

you fix a 6.0 right and it will last you for longer than the body will last. Does it need more injectors than some yea maybe but do you take care of it like you should? Did a 282 IH eat head gaskets ? Did a 263 burn valves? you can pick anything apart if you want. Did a detroit leak oil ?

I will keep my tier 4 and my older NON tier 4 and be happy with all - i have bought new/old over the years for various reasons, were not here to question ones motives or reasons for buying/choosing what they want just to support what we can and share in those experiences, we control NO ONE - just be happy for all and enjoy it all

I'm in the same boat, but I can't even find a tractor that fits my needs!! I had a I think around 30hp Massy with a loader and a backhoe that would dig 10ft 11in,(The guy that sold it to me said it would dig 10ft and I didn't believe him until I took it to my land and dug a 10ft 11in hole with no problem..) but when I was in the hospital someone came and wiped me out stealing over 150K of my stuff including my TLB... The insurance company is trying to rip me off as well, so I don't think I'm going to get much from them... So I have been looking for a tractor to replace the one that was stolen... But can't find one, Mine was completely rebuilt, front end rear end new PTO and complete New engine, and had about 90 hours on it when I bought it... I just can't find anything that can dig 10ft without buying a huge 50hp monstrosity!!! I need to put in at least one septic tank, and 2 water tanks to catch the rain water, and they all need to be under the 4ft frost line so it needs to dig 10ft to put 1 ft crushed rock and 1ft of sand for the tanks to set on... The tractors I've looked at only dig 6ft and one went 7ft... I found one that's a little big a Kubota L39 TLB but I guess they don't make them anymore and I can't find one that doesn't have low hours, or in my price range as I'm handicapped now and on SSD... I don't know what a LS is so if someone can please let me know so I can look at them as well... And I know what you are talking about with dealers, I was looking in June in NH and Maine, and I showed up in Tilton 5 min before noon, there were 3 trucks parked there I looked at a couple of the Kubota tractors with the backhoe on them figuring a sales person would come out, as I didn't know that they close "Early" on Saturday... I watch one by one get in there trucks and drive off, there was one truck left so I went to the door and by then it was locked... Not one person even came out to greet me or to even let me know that they were closing... I had driven all the way from Rochester NH, So they won't get my business... I also went to a dealer just over the border into Maine, I pulled in and got out and started looking at the tractors, the small ones at first, there was a woman walking around and a guy working on a tractor in the shop, I decided to look at the big tractors with cabs to see if someone would come help, just then a guy pulled up in a van and both the woman and guy came out meet him... They sat and chatted with him for about 5 min and then got something out of the back of his van and then went and got a part in the back yard and put it in the van... I wasted enough tim there and won't go back there as well... I only had one dealer that was just outside of Concord NH a Kioti Dealer, but they didn't have any used tractors and their new prices were way more than places like TX and AZ... Kioti Doesn't make any tractors that can dig 10ft or more... Even there huge tractors only dig 9ft!! What is wrong with these companies?? I need a tractor that not only can dig 10ft, but can take the backhoe off so I can try my hand at a garden, so I will need to rent or buy a tiller rake and such, but be able to put the hoe back on to hold trees to cut fire wood then off to use a PTO splitter... I don't think Kubota makes the L39 TLB Anymore but wish they would bring it back, Or if anyone knows where I can find one with low hours (Like under 500hours) that has the BT1100 Hoe on it, because it will dig 10ft... I have to be able to tow it with small pickup truck or a SUV... I can't afford new because I'm on SSD and that's a very low fixed income... And I can't afford one that has been beat to death for 1000+ hours, because I can't afford to be repairing it for at least 5 years, until I can save up some money or sell some corn and veggies at a farmers market... Anyone that can help me find what I need would be greatly appreciated!! Oh I have to bring a friend from NH to LAS VEGAS where she stays in the winter and back to NH for the summer so if there is a dealer somewhere in-between there that is good, let me know...

I think we have it narrowed down to a LS or Kioti. Dealers are small and very responsive as compared to the Massey or Mahindra

10 years ago I bought a Kubota and the JD dealer didn't seem to care about my business. I just bought a JD 2025R and this time around the Kubota dealer didn't call me back with a price and the JD dealers seemed like he was interested in making me happy. I often think it just depends on the salesman you first make contact with. I always figure its their loss not mine.

Massey here never returned my inquiries; I contacted someone at HQ and they tried to follow up and also couldn't get the local dealer to call me!
