Sea salt. I just wonder - where does everybody think salt comes from. There is only ONE place - the sea. That salt they find high up on a desert plateau - it was once under the sea.

The term "sea salt" is some advertising genius's idea. They can charge us more if they call it "sea salt". ALL salt is "sea salt".

There are some minor differences; I believe the trace minerals did stop my palpitations, that started in grade school.

2Lane - no doubt. ALL salt is NaCl - all salt come from the sea. However - there are MANY different recognized salts based upon their trace element content. Perhaps the most "famous" is Himalayan Pink. Then there is a green sea salt - don't remember the name. There is even a black sea salt. It is recognized that certain types of sea salts because of their trace element content are beneficial to your health.

.. what I learned about quitting smoking. There are several epiphanies that you must come to, one way or another, particularly if you were as severely addicted as I was. Of course you have to examine the reasons for quitting and keep them in mind. That should be easy.

First, you must realize and admit to your self that it will be hard...really hard, possibly the hardest thing you will ever do in your life. Really. You also must realize, that it is 99% on your shoulders. You must sink or swim, no other alternatives. Know up front that there is no angel going to come down to take away to give you a massage, take away your urges and leave you a trophy. IT'S ENTIRELY UP TO YOU...NOBODY ELSE.

Second, you must examine your thinking. Most of us use what I call "garbage thinking" to give ourselves an out. Example: "I'm going to TRY to quit smoking". You "try", and fail, but at least you "tried". I did that myself many times. Or you say "I WANT to quit smoking". Big deal. That's a given. So look at what you are telling yourself...AND BE HONEST.

Third, set your goal and do not allow yourself an out. Keeping in mind the items above, it goes something like this: "I am no longer a smoker. I cannot, and will not partake of tobacco ever again in my life. I will end up in the emergency room full of morphine before I will light up another cigarette. That part is done and over...my task is to survive until the urge is gone".

In my case, it went in threes...three days (horrible) three weeks ( bad) three months (pretty much have it licked).

I was selected to teach a "quit smoking" class when I was at the Health Department, and the building went non smoking. The success rate was not spectacular, but as I recall statistically I had maybe 3 or 4 times the average. One example I gave, was from the bible. There is the story of the crippled beggar at the pool of Bathesda. He said he had been there 38 years waiting to be healed, but could never beat anyone else into the water when it was disturbed (the prerequisite for being healed). Thirty eight years...I recall that Jesus said something like this..."Wilt thou be healed? Meaning, "man, you've been here 38 years? Do you REALLY WANT to be healed?
Moral...you gotta want it.

If you are a man (or woman) of faith, a prayer session is advisable. It helped me. "If two or more of you are gathered...".

When you still gravitate toward someone smoking, you haven't quit.

When you remove yourself from someone smoking, you have quit.

2LC, no offense, but what you describe is IMO an 'overblown process of quitting' that I avoided by stopping instead out of stubbornness, which I say took about as long to do as what you wrote. :p I did smoke for 50 yrs, but some may say I wasn't addicted. For those of us who have totally abdicated, others may say it was just so much easier for us than for themselves. (I had a smoking permit at SJMA when I was sixteen, that didn't help much.)

Richard, that I haven't touched, lit, chewed, or breathed tobacco or its smoke in 2 1/2 yrs is more important to me than some fancy label and a bunch of fanfare, back-pats, rounds of applause, or shouts of 'good job'. Smokers I know stay indoors, so I'm no longer in their company.

I concur that denying one's attachment is not quitting, that's for those who keep saying they're 'gonna quit' and haven't. I said I wanted to quit for 40 years w/o the g word, just didn't make up my mind until I decided to lord my self control and the result over the Oakies & PHBs I live among. :D I do my praying for others. God gave me so much to do His work with on 05-01-1950.

btw, IMO pot doesn't taste any better than tobacco, and sucking steam is the 'false-quit' of the day. No thanks.

I'm a pragmatic man, so if it works, use it! My diatribe, I believe fits most "quitters" who aren't really committed. Like the old saying goes, the pig in the ham and eggs you had for breakfast was totally committed; the chicken was merely involved.
