It was in my basement, so not load bearing or shear wall or anything. I accidentally glued through a door way for a base plate. Big mistake letting that cure.

Bolts work. If the plan is for bolts, that's what should be done. Is construction adhesive allowed instead of bolts for Code anywhere in the country? My experience with Liquid Nails and Loctite is that you can peal it off of the concrete from the edge. It holds wood to wood really well, but I've never been impressed with how it holds wood to concrete.

On exterior walls I run a thick bead of Leak Stopper that I buy at Lowes under my sill plates. This has become my very favorite flashing sealer. It goes on smooth, but dries super hard, but flexible. It dries clear and it's paintable. I use it for all exterior cracks and seams on a house, and for under the sill plates, it works great at keeping out ants!!!!

I needed that 22 yrs ago. Dont know where those little ants get in. Fortunately, not too often.

I've been searching for anything that says it's Code to use adhesive instead of bolts for sill plates and haven't found anything. Here is a forum thread that has some interesting information, but nothing definitive either way.

Adhesive for bonding bottom plate to concrete floor -

JLC-Online Forums

One of the comments. "Someone once posted a low-tech way of locating the tubing. Turn on the heat an mop water over the whole concrete floor. The squiggly areas that dry first are the tube locations. Lay out plates and pin locations while the evidence is plainly visible."

I think those of us who were endorsing construction adhesive were thinking about interior walls only.

All of my exterior walls have j-bolts in them at prescribed intervals to hold down my sill plates. I am supposed to use a foam layer under the sill plates for moisture break. SIPS panels are screwed and foam sealant mounted to the top of the sill plate. My interior walls are mounted to the floor. By bolts for sheer walls as prescribed by my architect and by adhesive on other walls as prescribed by the sips panel manufacturer. I will also place at least 1 cement nail anchor in some of the non sheer walls. This was discussed with my architect.

Here’s my latest video from this past weekend.

I think everyone was suggesting he use glue instead of bolts on his sill plates, even though his blue prints require bolts for those walls.

One person even suggested cutting off a bolt and pretending it's there instead of actually doing what is required to obtain the strength needed to build the wall properly.

I was talking interior walls only. Exterior have to be bolted, and any special requirements like shear walls don't really give you choices either. Most of the posts i read on using adhesive were talking about interior walls.

I tried using an infrared camera on my slab to pin down tubes but it really didn't work very well. I'm not sure why. It is possible that the tubes were too deep (5"+ slab) and the heat spread out too evenly by the time it reached the surface, but I can't say for sure.

Nice, but why are the top plates not overlapping the adjouning wall? That's the purpose of a double top plate, to tie the walls together.
