Do I have to "clean" a new AR lower?
I just got my first ever lower, it came from Palmetto State Armory,,
Do I just install the upper, and run it, or is there some procedure needed to make it usable?

Need to lube it over very good before using it:thumbsup: PSA is notorious for sending out lowers dry, and if you run more than 50 rounds through it without oiling it, you could actually hurt the internals on the lower.

See below:D

Please note, ANY time you get a firearm, you should break it down to ensure everything "looks good" and perhaps lube it if it looks like it needs it. That said, only so much you can do with a PSA lower new in the box from your FFL.

PLEASE never lob one up there like that one for a comeback:D

Honestly, common sense IMO to at least do a basic field strip on any new gun you get, be it new from the manufacturer or through a private sale.

I used to inspect, clean and lube every gun after any shooting session regularly when I was younger.

Some years ago, ran about 3000 rounds in a rifle to beat it to crap to see how it would hold up (piston 5.56 semi auto rifle, non "AR" style, guy sent it to me from Alaska at no charge to see if I'd like it first wich I don't think would ever happen again). Gun held up absolutely fine without a hicup NEVER cleaning it. Now on "battle rifles", I just lube with Mobile 1 motor oil after shooting and clean when if I ever get a hicup. Funny thing is even on DI AR's, I don't get many hiccups (including less expensive PSA lowers or uppers).

Jumping in later on this post and not having read every one yet I thought I would throw down some answers.

I got into the AR scene in 1993 when I bought a Colt Sporter with a 37 mm flare launcher....what a fun unit. Then I moved to an Olympic Arms 9mm. The next one was a mutt with Essential Arms Lower with carbine stock with an unknown 20" A2 upper in 1995 (bought/stole it for $425 early during the Clinton ban). Then the building began.

I have built a 7 1/2 DPMS Kitty Kat, Bushmaster 11.5", CMMG 10.3" on that Essential Arms and ended with a Colt 11.5" light weight (0933) upper. I used it for work from 1996 through 2008. Then I traded with a NY resident as it was a preban. I started running a COlt 6921 with that 11.5 upper until 2012 and then went to the 300 AAC Blackout until 2019 when I changed to a Sig MCX Virtus and Rattler.

I still have several traditional AR rifles in various calibers including 22 LR and 458 Socom. I am building the bigger 308 AR into a 375 Raptor. Just need a barrel and carrier assembly. I had a transferrable Colt M16A1 and ran that with a Lakeside Machine LM7 (22 LR BELTFED). Lots of 22s down range in a short period of time. Nothing like a 200 round belt.

The most fun is a challenging caliber or barrel setup which requires a little attention to what is happening and when. Gotta watch the over gassing, under gassing, magazine quality, extractor spring, ejector spring, and sometimes your buffer makes a difference.

The AR15 (as most know it) is more than a semi automatic which fuels strong emotions. It is simple to work on and allows the end user to "re-caliber" for so many purposes. Yet building them are so fun you really don't "re-caliber" in the end. Just pick up another lower, build it, and shoot it.

Built right with decent shooter skills they are accurate, most still more accurate than the shooter. They offer the option to buy/build to shoot or make personalized changes to offer a better fit to the shooter/situation.
