Ballast Filled tires, tubes or not?

MAYBE True for HomeOwners doing yard work on flat ground : NOT for Farmers & People who really use their tractors :D

This is an interesting comment that I don't quite know how to respond too. I probably "really use" my tractor more than most people on this forum. While I don't plow or cultivate most of the spring and summer I steadily use most of the horse power available at the pto. While I do live in a flat area most of my work in summer involves irrigation ditches which are far steeper than most road ditches. Any sort of wheel weights would work against me and I certainly don't need it for traction. If my rear tires had fluid in them it would raise my center of gravity at the angles I work at. Besides now I can use the three point hitch to lift my rear tires off the ground. With fluid that would be more difficult.

Depends entirely on your situation and what you are doing with the tractor. I've tried it both ways and found that loaded is the only way to go for me. For others, having loaded tires may be a disadvantage.

Amazing must be the tractors that I run aren't really used, lets see 3 CIH Magnums 7110, 7120, 7230 dry no fluid, CIH Puma 125 dry, NH 6050 dry, JD 4430 had fluid now dry, IH 1086 dry, IH 1066 dry, Ford 8000 dry, Branson 8050 dry, IH 574 dry, a few IH 656's dry, IH 560 fluid, 50 hp Kubota dry, Farmall 400 think it's dry now has had fluid, Farmall H dry.

Oh and by the way I wish we had flat ground much of the time, what little flats we do have are clay flats so the less weight the better most of the time.

Sorry guys. I should have worded it a little different.
I guess I was thinking out loud. Interesting comments.

pmsmechanic : I don’t see how Fluid Filled Tires would “Raise” the center of gravity with most of the Fluid Below the axle

Think of the tractor sitting at enough of an angle in the ditch that the only thing keeping it from rolling is the weight of the mower on the three point hitch. If I have to lift the mower to put weight on the rear tractor tires for traction then the tractor is already over it's center of gravity. Fluid might help a bit but frankly I'm not interested in finding out. Mostly I really like having a light tractor and being able to add weight via cast iron when I need it.

I took the gawdy Tall R1’s off today,
Fluid Filled all Four New R4 take offs & installed them on my 5085E :D
It’s so much lower geared, useable & takes gear smoother now for my applications.

220gals x 8lbs = 1,760lbs Heavier with all 4 Fluid Filled Tubeless :D

No more bouncing, more stable & better traction.

Filling mine up tonight! I just decided to use water. I may add some sort of rust inhibitor later if I decide too. My tractor is never going to be left outside in freezing weather, and it will be stored in a heated shop so I’m not worried about it freezing.

Do you have the weight of tractor off the tires ?

You’ll love the difference with the extra weight in the tires & NOT on the tractor.

I don’t! I should have weighed it before and after but I just haven’t had a chance too!
