Service Animals

On a more positive note... I was in Home Depot and just inside the entrance were two people with a young pup. Next to them was a sign saying “Service dog in training, please do not pet”, or words to that effect. As everybody walked past without stopping I remember thinking they were doing a pretty good job training people.

At some point in life most of us have needed a service snake at least once. They call themselves lawyers or attorneys though.

Anyone can go to some website and register anything they want... that has no legal standing at all, because that's not how Service Animals work, the only LEGAL Service Animals are miniature horses, and dogs. You can't have a cat as a Service Animal, or a Turkey, or a Goat... you CAN have those things as "Emotional Support Animals" and they don't have the same protections.

Personally I don't care if someone has their WELL BEHAVED dog in a restaurant or whatever, it doesn't bother me a bit... but if it's not well behaved, leave it home or get a sitter.

My wife spent 30 days in the hospital when she was being treated for colon cancer. She was visited by service dogs twice and it was something that she greatly appreciated. We are very much in favor of service dogs.

We show dogs with AKC and are pretty active in the show dog world.

We feel that too many people are taking advantage of calling their dogs service dogs so they can bring them into stores with them. Bringing different animals onto an airplane and calling them service dogs is just ridiculous.

I applaud the guy who registered a bee hive to prove his point!!!

I'm with you k0ua! People that abuse the small privileges of the handicapped should themselves be treated with complete disrespect and disdain.

They are abusing accommodations for truly handicapped people. They're like people with phony /unnecessary /selective handicap parking tags who use it to park 50' closer to the entrance (before they go inside and are somehow able to walk around a 7 acre mall)

Eddie - I beleive your wife was visited by a well trained Therapy Dog not a Service Dog. There is a difference.

A service dog is trained to help people with disabilities such as visual impairments, mental illnesses, seizure disorders, diabetes, etc. A therapy dog is trained to provide comfort and affection to people in hospice, disaster areas, retirement homes, hospitals, nursing homes, schools and more.Jul 10, 2017

Keep in mind it's not the federal government giving the leeway per the definition of a service aninal, but the states.
