And if it's not cricical I just estimate;
0.125= 1/8
0.250= 1/4

so the 0.18 is a skimpy 3/16

or if I want to get closer every 1/16 is 0.065 or
every 1/32 is 0.03125 and every 64th is 0.015625

.18 divided by 0.065 = just under 3/16
.18 divided by 0.03125 = just under 6/32
.18 divided by 0.015625 = about 11 and 1/2, 64ths
if anyone cares
:thumbsup: My son keeps telling me think of .025........ as in money, which does help but for some reason I can picture in my head the length of 1/8, 3/16, 1/4 or 1-3/16 easier, it's some sort of mental block...............

Thanks Lou and Oldpath.

Wouldn't it be great if we all just use metric once and for all? :laughing: Just joking. :)

I do try to convert all the stuff to fractions most of the times as you can see on some of my previous posts. I know some of you appreciate that.

I made a cut out on the bottom rail so I can insert the forks in. I did weld a stop at both sides so the forks wouldn't accidentally slide out of the frame.

Regarding the lip holding the load, I think it will be ok. But if it starts bending, I do have some room to add a piece of flat bar to reinforce the lip.
Even though I cant picture 8 mm in my head metric is fine with me just wish the world just pick one, I'm tied of two different tool measurements and I'm quite sure that in 50 more years I can learn metric.
I will be interested in this fork build because in the next year or two I want to do the same thing on my tractor. I'm still using my long forks on my bucket, I think I loose lift power that way, I mostly use my shorter ones for logging but heres my long forks in use. Kubota 34 DT with forks - YouTube

I used to run a similar setup on my previous tractor since I didn't have a quick attach for the bucket on that loader. I didn't really like them because I could see what I was stabbing with the forks.

I don't really do any logging but if I were to do, this is what I would do on this forks I'm fabricating:

This is a common setup here and I do have cylinders available to do that, at the moment I don't really have the use.

I moved a bunch of piles of wet pallets (mostly broken for firewood), a big and heavy stump and some other stuff with the freshly made set of forks for the tractor. Worked awesome and allowed me to put some actual load on the loader, tractor and forks. A full bucket of dirt just don't put enough load. It's was a nice test and lip didn't budge, so I don't think I will worry much with that.

I only had a 275 lbs carry all box in the back but it was empty. I've never found the tractor to be light on the rear or even trying to lift the rear. These Branson tractors are really heavy!

And of course, I had my assistant always supervising and making sure the forks are in the right place. :)

Are those New Holland tractors or?
I see that they are using planetaries on the front axles.
Do you happen to know what models they are.

Yes they are. Probably a specialty model for Europe.

I'm not fully into NH models but it looks like it is a T4 variant. The left looks like a T4F and the right one is a T4 LP. I don't know the HP though. Both are available from 75 HP to 110HP.

First picture is a illegal picture, when theres alot of weight on forks the forks must be at least 4' off ground and I dont know the mm measurement for that. On the next picture, that would be a lot better if the pallets fell down all over the place, like it does in my world..................

What's next sand blast and paint?

You're absolutely right! I thought about that when I was posting the picture. I should have lifted the stump more for the picture but I try to lift stuff just enough to get it moving.

As far as the pallets... Let's just say that moving those piles didn't go as smoothly as it should :laughing: It was just one stubborn piles that decided to fall all over the place.

Yes, next will be painting once the weather gets better to do that kind of stuff. I also need to paint the carry all box so I might do it all at once. I painted my hydraulic press I made the other day with this weather. Man what a pain it was. Took forever to dry.
