Hi Doofy. I DO miss living in Glennallen. I don't miss those cold winter temps though. I'm "listening" to the Seahawk/Packer game. The hawks are in their fumbling mode. Willson will have to pull off an end-of-the-game miracle if they plan on winning this one.

All day long here - 36F, rain, wind. I'll be seeing green grass soon. Hope your recovery is going well. Stay warm.

Feeling great! Wife is tiring of the cold though and the lack of 4 actual seasons. She figures her 43 years here should be about enough. These old bones still don't mind the cold but I am sick of the high prices and scarcity of fresh food and produce. Some day, maybe.

I feel the same. I bought a Costco Generac 17kw nat gas generator. It sure is nice hearing it run outside when the rest of the area is pitch black.

balmy -30c Northern Alberta. Supposed to be -45c with windchill for the next 10 days or so.
^^^^^^

Please send some of that this way.

I dunno. I could live without the extreme sub-zero temperatures, but I wouldn't mind some of the snow the PNW is getting.

One of the reasons we bought this house was the ease with which we could make it thru a power outage...gravity feed well (enough pressure for a shower), propane kitchen stove & hot water, wood stove for heat. Then again, it was built in the 1830s, about 100 years before electricity came to this area.

The only reason I bought a generator was to keep the freezer/refrigerator cold during a summer outage...start it up & run 'em every 8 hr or so. Other than that nothing electrical we can't live without for a couple days if need be.

Freezing rain! Power out Sunday moring at 2 am. At about 9, got up and started my project generator. Working on it for almost a year, not finished, but finally managed to put it to the test. Aplication worked well although I only had a 20 amp twistlock and it should have a 30 so could not use the full 7.5KW. Power back at 6pm.

Ice still on trees and everything else so really, if the wind picked up, the potential damage of the freezing rain, would only now start.

Trying to save one of my favourite trees from the branches snapping off, but attempt was a total failure. Great heater, but not nearly enough heat. Makes one appreciate the vast forces in nature.

Put these stilts under the branches instead, hoping the ice melts before any wind comes along, but the forecast doesn't look favourable.

Most of the bad stuff missed us to the north and west. We got about 1/4" of rain Saturday night and some 50+ mph winds on Sunday morning. There were a lot of power outages near here on Sunday from downed trees but almost all of that has been repaired now.

We got two months of rain in a couple of nights. Pond overflowing. Totally unheard of except for spring runoff.

grsthegreat - you and I have seen the same storms over the last week. You must be at a higher elevation than I am here. I'm at 2285' and have had warm wx, rain and wind. My total snow depth now - 3 1/2". It's great wx to do plowing.... 20F, but it's not even worth it for what I have.
