Was cleaning up latest snow fall and under the snow was a large bale hay net.
It stopped the blower and I assumed a broken shear pin but after cleaning it all
out the PTO won't reengage. I had disconnected the PTO while cleaning out the net
so I could turn the blower backwards with the tractor shut off. Then reconnected
the PTO shaft and started tractor and no PTO even though the dash light comes on.
No shear pin broke.
Also noticed that now I can turn the PTO shaft by hand both directions with the tractor
shut off. It wasn't that way before. Do I have a serious screw up here?

Front or rear snowblower? If front, then running off the mid-PTO..

Do you have a lever that puts the pto in neutral? Not the pto engagement lever or button, but a completely separate lever.

If do, it may have slipped into neutral

Never heard of or seen one.
There must be a clutch of some kind controlled by the switch and I'm not sure where to look.

In that case, show us a picture of your PTO engagement button/lever and let us know if you are talking rear PTO or mid PTO.. tks

Pls answer reply #2

There is a clutch for the main PTO. You can look at the parts at jdparts that are involved,

Some pics of what you have will help.

Is there an "I feel stupid" emoji ?
or maybe an I feel stupid, but relieved" emoji?

Unhooked the rear mounted snowblower and pulled out the PTO switch and the tractor's shaft turned.
Hooked it back up to the snowblower and snowblower shaft wouldn't turn.
Took a better look at the snowblower shaft and found two bolts missing on the connector at the
tractor. Like back-up shear bolts.
I've been using this set up for about 10 years, broken drive chains and shear bolts on pieces of 4x4,
a 10" channel lock pliers, and numerous feet of chain link fence and never broke those bolts and
never knew they were there.
-Don't blow your neighbor's yard out w/o asking what might be hidden although the hay net and
pliers were in our yard.

Thanks for the responses and I'll look closer next time.

Don't worry, Been there done that or at least my wife has. She has sent a gallon bucket, frozen hay and a big pyrex bowl through the snowblower on my JD 4400. Thankfully there are about 3 different locations on shear bolts to protect the driveline. Knock on wood all I have in repairs so far is about 5 bucks.
