In Indiana the are called Conservation Officers and they work for the Department of Natural Resources. They are law enforcement officers, they carry guns, and it's one of the more dangerous jobs in law enforcement, as bubba the poacher is usually armed, drinking, or on meth. Not only do they deal with wildlife related law, they help in K9, search and rescue, boating law enforcement, traffic enforcement, etc.... pretty much anything the state police, county police, or city police do in addition to wildlife law enforcement. They also conduct educational classes and other PR stuff. Generally, they are great folks. They keep an eye on my place when in the area. They once stopped my in-laws on my property. Asked them if they had permission to be there. They were cutting firewood.
