Flail Mower Let's talk flail mowers

Can you take pictures from the other end? I think that can be swapped to 3 point. I may be wrong, but why not look at it.. Looks like the mount can be flipped, the round tubes front and back both have ears in what looks like the same location. If the gearbox can be flipped also.

Just looking at if it is possible.

I can only post one picture at a time, not sure why. Thanks for the suggestion. I had the same idea. I tried taking the hitch arms off and flipping and rotating the gear box. I couldn't make it line up without a bunch of cutting and welding, something I'm not able to do.

Has anybody ever heard of kverneland flail? There is one going up on auction near me. If so, are there dealers and parts available? Thanks so much.

Measure the spacing between the ears on both front and rear tubes. If they are the same, then measure from front and rear tubes, to the drive tube coming out of the gearbox side. If they are the same, then I bet it can be reversed. The gearbox mounts to the upright where the toplink connects. And I bet the bolt pattern is symmetrical. Yes you will be wrenching, but you won't be cutting and welding. Where are you located? I could help if you're close.

Kverneland has been building and selling farm equipment for years and they have a dealer network here in the United States.
go to the auction and look at it before you buy as you have ot be more concerned about whether you have enough power to run it.

Spending the money on the parts from Messicks to convert it or buy the hitch parts will still get you a flail mower that will outlast your current mule.

Since it is a front mount low production unit, it has value as is. Just advertise several places, somebody out there needs it.

I know from experience that out front mowers are so much better and easier to use than rear 3 point or pull behind mowers.

I've heard the name in relation to farming & hay equipment. Might be a crop flail. Thise are really wide & optimized for chopping up corn stalks & what not. The crop flails I've seen are way to bug for a CUT & not built for mowing out of a relatively smooth field.

I took the hitch arms off, unbolted the gearbox and flipped its direction on the driveshaft. The gearbox drive shaft isn't centered front to back. I was unable to get the hitch arms under or over the drive shaft. After speaking with alamo, their tech guy said that it would spin in the wrong direction anyway, due to the pulley and belt setup.
I'm kind of afraid to make all the parts purchases and it still have it not work correctly.

After some searching, did I read this correctly? Kubota bought kverneland?

I wouldnt wory much about HP. I ran a 7' behind a 25pto HP L3200. You can compensate by going slow (especially with a HST).

I would heavily wory about your weight & width. Your TBL will be heavy for its class, but very narrow for a 4,000 CUT.

My L4060 feels it when I shift my Super Bull (1,700lbs 8'). When i offset it fully to the right the belt guard is even with the left tire. So despite being heavier it's likely putting less side torque on my 5,000lbs 72" track machine than that smaller mower would when it hangs way out. The heavy end of the mower & the gearbox stays on the left of or equal to the drawbar giving me some balance still.

I'm gonna guess that you could pull it off ok if the roller on the mower stayed supported by the ground. But if it came off the ground it might get pretty hairy quickly.View attachment 598521

Quick update to this conversation. Everything Fallon mentions is pertinent. I decided to add wheels to the mower to make it safe to operate with the narrow B21 and also put much less stress on the three point assembly.

Anyone for a rousing game of "name that flail?

This one has come up for sale near me for what I consider a decent price. 48" in width, so a nice size for the little yanmar.

I think its a Ford 917 of some flavor but some parts look significantly different than what I remember from the one I had previously. The lift pin attachment also seems to be missing the float arms I remember? Could that be factor or is that a hack job somebody did?

Downsizing -- is it your intent to lower those extra wheels taking weight off the roller , both for transport and to keep control and prevent sideways tipping when the cutter is swung out I suppose ? Nice installation/mod. How is that mower working out reaching out over bank edges, ditches, etc. ?
