Nice Lou. Sorry about your lack of power. At least with your set up it's just a minor inconvenience.
I've always heard that those pto driven gensets run "dirty", as in freq and voltage bounce all over the place.
Have you found that to be true, or false with your particular genset?
No, my generator outputs good clean power.
It is a 4 pole head so it needs 1800 rpm for 60 Hz, with the gearbox on the generator set for 540 rpm input to give the 1800 rpm to the generator.
As you can see with the numbers I got last night it is very stable.
Off my Kill A Watt meter,
set up and running will a minimal load 60.1-60.2 Hz and 118.3 volts, just a few lights and miscellaneous,
bit more of a load turned the oven back on to finish supper no change in hz or voltage,
with the storm going and windows closed it got stuffy and hot so 3 heads on the mini splits on with the oven
HZ 60.0-60.1 volts 118.1- 118.2. so quite a bit more load both the mini split AC's on and the oven on.
A few years ago I brought a scope meter home from work just to check out the power it was more stable then the power company.
The Branson tractor governor works very good and holds a steady rpm with a varying load, my old Oliver also did very good,
the IH 574 is not quite as good when the load changes it will swing just a bit before it stabilizes, but thats just 2-3 HZ and less then 3-4 volts,
when I put the generator on the 1000 rpm shaft and run at half throttle the 574 will swing 4-5 HZ and 5-8 volts, I have run it at night on that setup to save fuel.
