Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

What’s the rule in your state? Here you can put any plate you want on anything. We’ve got passenger vehicle plates for $29 a year which includes all pickups, J class weighed tags for farm use and H class for commercial use.

I don’t think we get a choice between truck or car plates, but can opt for a lower weight class on trucks. Truck registration is a racket and costs a good bit more even for the lowest weight class.

I know it’s not the same class truck but my wife kind of likes the Honda Ridgeline, I’m a little hesitant and we don’t really tow that much . Comments.
And as to the first part I’m going to try another Ford dealer this week

Traded my 2012 Tundra Crewmax for 2019 Ridgeline RTL-E in Nov. absolutely love it. Actually did complete deal online, saleman delivered Ridgeline and picked up Tundra. Best experience ever.

And just for S&G. This same salesman sold me new Tacoma in 2009, the new Tundra in 2012, new Pilot in 2016, and the new Ridgeline in 2019.

Yes I ordered the sport package and as for plates I think the only specialized truck plate is “farm truck” and that is discounted . Mine will be my “ distinguished Flying Cross “ military plate which we also get a break on in Texas.
Thanks guys another week and another chance for a salesman to excel or go down in flames

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

When I bought my SUV I gave the local dealer a chance to sell me one, but he wanted full retail price. I had already done my research and knew what other dealers were selling them for. One dealer 300 miles away (in a different state) advertised their price which was thousands less than the local dealer. The local dealer wouldn't budge so we walked. Called the dealer in Arkansas and told him we'd buy it at the price they advertised. Drove up and spent the night in a local hotel, picked the car up and drove back. Registration with the local DMV was simple, easy, and half the cost the dealer charges. So, after the cost of fuel, hotel, meals, etc. we still saved about $3000 and paid less than we'd offered the local dealer. A week later I got a call from the salesman - told him he was to late.

You may have to travel some to get what you really want.

Also, be prepared for: I'd made an appointment with a salesman to see a particular vehicle they advertised. Drove 4 hours to see it and meet the salesman. Salesman was a no show, apparently he had the day off. I was referred to another salesman who would be with me shortly. An hour later we left without every seeing any of their vehicles. The salesman called me when we were half way home and wanted me to come back.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

I can稚 believe in this day of information dealers are still attempting to lie to customers in order to sell what they want to sell you?
The not returning the phone call isn稚 due to neglegt or poor customer service. It痴 an attemp to manipulate you into being more compliant when you call them and they act the fool trying to spin more bull up that cavity.

Find a dealer thatç—´ honest from the start and you will be better off.

It's the same with everything. I live on the NY/Canada border. Apparently no one wants to return a call or website inquiry about tractors. I got either no response, a ridiculous price from one Kubota dealer or one JD dealer called to tell me that he had what I wanted on his lot and that he'd check the price and call me back. That was 2 weeks ago. Also no response from a generally well respected on this forum Kubota dealer out of PA.
I have no allegiance to locals because they sure don't seem to have any for me. A deal for a Kubota BX2380 was struck with Barlow in Kentucky and I'm awaiting delivery.
The last F250 I bought was about 2 hours from home because the locals either don't respond or don't listen to details about what I'm shopping for and try to sell me a truck 3 trim levels above what I want.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

I guess I'm "easy" when it comes to selecting new vehicles. I have no dying desire for anything special. The ONLY time I wanted something special. I wanted a special color. A sheet of brilliant white computer paper. A finger full of mud from the last remaining mud hole in the driveway. Smear on the paper - let it dry - ask the salesman, how close can you match this color.

Custom paint job - $1500. I settled for what was available on their lot.

Yes - there are times when I DO get tired of hosing mud off the Taco Wagon. However, another two weeks and it will all be over until the rains this fall.

Oh, yes, the Taco Wagon was special. But it came with every option known to man and blue isn't bad at all. And - NO - I still don't know how to use some of the options because I've found that I never use or never need some of them.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

I'll provide a counter opinion here. Unless you really have a concern about the dealer, I would give him another shot. The Ford option combinations are not necessarily logical. If you put one wrong or unnecessary restriction in, the color choices can be drastically reduced. I had to order my 2017 F-150 because none existed with my package choices. I went with a Lariat Sport package and that cut the color options almost in half. The real kicker was that I didn't want to pay for the navigation system and they don't build many Lariats without it.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

Most dealers have their inventories online. Find the truck you want at deal directly with the dealer that has it if you local dealer can't get what you want.

In 2016 selected a F150 online. Walked in to the dealer with stock number. Set a price, got financing, truck prepped, registered and out the door in 4 hours. Helped the finance manager was the sales guy I bought my 1997 Ranger over the phone with.

Last year did similar. Lazy weekend test drove a Forrester for my wife. That sales guy let her pick a color then decided that car (and options) we should buy. Didn't understand when we didn't buy his choice. Online picked the options we want. Found a few in stock. Got prices by email. Picked one and negotiated a price with online sales guy. Saturday morning walked in with car selected, price set, financing ready. Need finalize and sign paperwork, exchange faxes with insurance agent and dealer to do registration. Sales guy on the floor still wanted us to take a test drive and go through options. She got her Forrester that day.

Take charge of the process don't let the sales guy direct you what he has to sell. You have done research to pick what you want. Now extend that to what trucks are in various dealer inventories. If they know you are talking to multiple dealerships you have more leverage on negotiating a price and getting what you want.

Re: Didn稚 know buying a truck was so hard

In today's world of the inter web...the days of dealing with a sales person face to face buying a car are optional. Search sites like Cars.com for exactly hat you want..and there are probably 20 that match your build. .. send them a email and have their online guy give you the number. Most if all not all dealers will ship or deliver.
