The whitish smoke is diesel that is not completely combusted. Even with the pre-cups, there is still some diesel that does not completely burn before the engine head is "hot" enough. This usually lasts 20 to 30 seconds, then clears as the head warms from combustion. We normally recommend that you do (2) pre-heat cycles just to let the head get a little warmer.

You don't experience this as much with the Tier IV Engines since they are direct injection and inject at 21,000 psi, 3 degrees before TDC. The Tier iV's are a bit quieter since you do not have the pre-combustion chamber in direct injected diesels.

The "clanky" noise is due to the indirect injection of the diesel. The CK2610 utilizes the mechanical indirect injection system like the other Tier III Diesels. What sounds like "clanking" is actually caused by the combustion that takes place in the pre-combustion chamber in the engine head. Gives it that old "Diesel" sound as the fuel combusts in the pre-combustion chamber. They do quiet down some when they warm up, but still "ping".

Seriously, my JD2305 sounded just like the CK2610. I suspect if you put them side by side, you wouldn't be able to tell a difference in how it sounded. The JD2305 had a small Yanmar engine which are known for their reliability. I don't have any reason to doubt the Daedong engine is any more or less reliable. How it sounded wasn't really a concern of mine, so long as it ran reliably.

Makes me feel a bit better, mine does sound like that. Her's mine starting "cold". I still think she's extra clangy.

OK, admittedly I have not had a diesel in a while (last time was a 1987 diesel VW Jetta), but I swear this engine sounds like it wants to throw a rod when cold. It gets better when hot, but still rough sounding, with a lot of mechanical hammering noises. To be clear it is not missing or anything, just really noisy. Really hoping this is something loose on the tractor I am hearing, because it does not sound good.

Mind you, this is with 11hours on the clock, and a cold start is high 60s, so there are really no disclaimers here. Checked the oil, looks 3/4 full. Probably the world's cheapest oil though.

What viscosity are you running in your Kiotis? Manual says 10W30, 10W40 and 15W40 diesel rated all acceptable. Wondering if a synthetic 15W40 would quiet it down on "cold" starts. Does not get too cold here,garage kept and I have a bloc heater installed, so not really worried about winter starts. Sounds crazy but I can't wait for the first oil change. Probably going to push out the el cheapo grease pretty soon also.

Nice to see a fellow Canadian on here. I have a CK30HST and I've used Amsoil's Diesel Clean/Cetane in it, and other tractors before it, with great results. The first time that I mixed it in the fuel I could hear the difference as I filled the fuel tank while the tractor was idling. Diesel fuel burns best with a cetane level of around 52 and our diesel fuel in Canada is lucky to be 45 cetane. Also be sure that you use Name brand diesel fuel and get it from a station that you see a lot of big rigs fueling up. That way you know the fuel is fresh. I don't bother with the off-road fuel pump for the few cents saved and who knows how fresh/not fresh the fuel is. Here is the link to Amsoil diesel additive. I also use AMSOIL series 3000 5W30 diesel oil in the engine for good oil flow and easy starts in the cold, with good year round protection. Any of the Signature Series (might be overkill?) or Heavy Duty oils would work well for you. Diesel Motor Oil - AMSOIL

Make sure the induction pre-heater is working (at the intake manifold entry). Makes a huge difference at cooler temps. Throw an amp clamp around the wire they draw 30 plus amps when they are working correctly.

I disconnect mine in Summer by removing the fuse. You'll know it's right if the tractor idles a bit higher after 20 seconds or so, the lower idle when first started is because the alternator is trying to power the induction heater and putting a load on the engine.
